Hello Everybody!
I just wanted to start a thread for us to help each other get through the Seton RN Residency selection process for July 2015.
Feel free to post any updates, questions, and experiences.
I applied 2.17, and as of today my paperwork for routed to HR. I am patiently awaiting further information.
Also, who will be attending the open house?
Finally, I just wanted to say GOOD LUCK!
Hello Everyone! I have been writing several recommendation letters recently for the July 2015 Residency Cohort and remembered relying on these forums heavily when I was applying for the Feb 2013 cohort, therefore I wanted to come back on here to see what has changed! I do notice that the available spots are getting slimmer and slimmer even though we are in dire need of nurses but it is due to the number of preceptors available as well as balancing out the ratio of new nurses to experience nurses on the floor at once. Do not get discouraged if you are starting off with an ADN they hire just about evenly with BSN but if you do have an ADN make sure you reiterate your plans on going back for your BSN and if you have already been accepted in to a RN to BSN program that is even better.
Interview tips:
Look over Seton Mission and Values!
Draw up several clinical experiences that stands out to you because you will be asked about that example: when was a time you have shown leadership?
What is your strength and weakness?
If you can describe yourself in 3 words what are they?
You will be given scenarios as in if you do not understand a certain procedure or protocol, what would you do and who would you turn too for help?
Overall be yourself! They are always looking for the perfect fit for the unit so attitude is key!
Look at the different certification that pertains to the specialty unit that you will be interviewing for, it will show your interest and your knowledge for that unit! Makes you very appealing! Example: ICU: the CCRN certification, ER: CEN certification, Peds: CPN certified Pediatric Nurse and so forth.
I do believe it doesn't matter whether you are locally or from out of state it just matters how you interview and definitely going to the open house is the hugest difference but don't be discouraged cause a fair number of people from my cohort were from out of state and was not able to attend the open house but they did make the effort to come to Austin on a different time and came up to the hospital of their interest found the managers and spoke directly with them. Overall, I wish everyone luck and that Seton is an amazing network to work for! I myself started off with an ADN, came from out of town and had never stepped foot into a Seton facility but was still offered a spot! So don't feel discouraged, everyone has a fair equal chance!!
