U.S.A. Texas

Published

Hello Everybody!

I just wanted to start a thread for us to help each other get through the Seton RN Residency selection process for July 2015.

Feel free to post any updates, questions, and experiences.

I applied 2.17, and as of today my paperwork for routed to HR. I am patiently awaiting further information.

Also, who will be attending the open house?

Finally, I just wanted to say GOOD LUCK!

I'm very excited too, I have family there. Where are you moving from Besa?

I also have family there and that's predominantly one of the big reasons for moving. I'm moving from Delaware. How about you?

Smara - the only facility hiring new grads for the NICU is Seton Medical Center Austin. Not sure how many they are hiring.

Besa- I am from California. Good luck with the move!

Mellie- Thank you! I wish they had enough for all of us:D

Got an email today saying that everything was forwarded to HR? Anyone else got that?

Just got an email that my seton part 1 is approved

Does everyone automatically.move on to part 2

I received the email too.

Not sure how that works. A part of me thinks that everyone gets the email but then again, why review everyone's part I if everyone will just move on.

Either way, YAY! Congrats everyone!

Hey ya'll,

My name is Brittany and I was hired with the June 2014 cohort. I hope you don't mind me chiming in, just wanted to give support if needed! First, forget the rumors. Yes, ADNs get hired; No, you still have an opportunity to get hired even if you don't have CNA/tech/EMT (etc.) experience....the list goes on. Also, don't give up on ICU. I was incredibly blessed to be hired on straight to ICU but I have been told by critical care managers that those who get 1-2 years floor experience are very likely to get hired after that time...they love that! So don't give up if you aren't hired right into ICU...an opportunity will most likely come quickly if you want it enough. In regards to the competition (lots of candidates, low number of options), the main thing I learned is there is no room for fear or insecurities. If you want the job, you HAVE to sell yourself...bring Capstone projects, show your work, show your commitment, have something to prove yourself...such as a small portfolio with samples of your work dedicated to the specialty you're interviewing for. Also, make sure to include Seton's mission in your discussion, and your commitment to the new "Humancare Promise". Please don't hesitate to ask other questions or for help...especially when it comes to interviewing and beginning your residency. Good luck to all of you! ❤️ Keep it exciting and fun!

Thank you BCBRN! I am an ADN student and was a little nervous. I was really looking to get into ER with Seton; however, they didn't seem to be hiring but maybe 2 spots... I looooove ER and was fortunate to have the opportunity to have a preceptorship at an ER.

Question: Does everyone automatically move on to the second stage after the initial application is submitted? Is that why there are about 7947073410740832767 people applying for just one spot?

If I remember correctly, the second stage is basically automatic...I think it's just a way to confirm you have everything turned in/filed/in their system that they need. If you ever are unsure just call!! Call the RN residency office and simply ask. í ½í¸Š Since I'm not exactly sure, go ahead and call so it's one less thing for you to worry about (I think that's what I did because I was paranoid, lol). After that, it's just a waiting game. ER is incredibly competitive, but having a preceptorship helps! And if they have your paper resume, meaning you went to the open house, that's also a great deal of help. My manager hadn't even seen my online application when he called me for an interview.

Also, hopefully you applied to critical care? If not ICU, IMC? Like I mentioned earlier, if you don't get the specialty you want, but you get a job offer somewhere...TAKE IT! Getting in is the hard part...transferring or changing specialties later after getting some basic nursing experience is much easier once you're part of Seton. :-)
