Sad that we may need a category for this.
Another school shooting in NoCal.
Thinking of NoCalMimi and hoping she's okay.
Kidz, I've read your references to armed officers at this school but I can't find that reporting. Can you lead me to that?
Yep. It was in the very first google result.
"The shooting on the sprawling campus happened despite the presence of police officers at the school."
17 killed in mass shooting at high school in Parkland, Florida - NBC News
I want all that stuff too Kidz...but wanting it isn't relevant to reality. It's not gonna happen. Guns are not going away. We MUST deal with that reality and plan for it.
But you don't answer the question of why not. It is shown to help in other places.
Is it because people want to selfishly choose their guns over lives? You've posted many times about how society has become more and more me-focused and less sympathetic. How is insisting on gun ownership as an indelible right different?
When the 2nd amendment was written, these types of guns did not exist. As our world changes, so must our laws.

I'm actually agreeing with you...I want it the way you mention..I wish it could be that way. It's not gonna change...your vote didn't help...my vote didn't help...state or federal...what else is there to do?
Thanks...something just doesn't fit though...no mention of them other than their presence and then the statement by the superintendent that two police cars were typically on campus on a daily basis. You'd think there would be more coverage of that...
I know there was an armed SRO on campus in the shooting that occurred here in KY, but again, not much else was said. This FL campus was huge. HUGE. I would think even if there were two armed SRO's that it's likely the shooting spree was over before one of them could even get to where they needed to.
I'm not sure what the answer is about gun control. We do have laws in place now that even when followed to the "t" are not fail safe. I can't remember which shooting it was, but the shooter had gotten the gun legally. Even though there was a charge from a military branch that was not put into a data base it should have been. Had it been put into the data base he would not been able to get the gun. Also, unless a person (1) has a record/documented mental illness or (2) been put in the data base correctly they can still get a gun. I cannot see making it impossible to get or taking away law abiding citizens guns and then be left defenseless because of "what if's" , human error or oversight. Again, I do not know what the answer is.
I just read a story where a grandmother just stopped a mass school shooting by reading her grandson's journal. She must have had some red flags she observed for her to go in search his room and find the journal. She even told the cops he had a gun in a guitar case. She went and snooped in that boy's room and "saved" many.
Even in yesterday's shooting, people "knew", "figured", or suspected he might do something like that. I have so many questions that will never be answered to my satisfaction, because I many not see it the way they did nor am I in their shoes. My heart does go out to the people who he stayed with because their action or non actions are going to scrutinized. All they were trying to do was help a young man who had no one else.
I will pray that I will be bold enough to speak up and be persistent if I ever come across a student, young person or adult that appears to be a danger. I will pray that it doesn't happen here or anywhere.
I keep thinking about those who say "Why didn't anyone say anything, there were all these warning signs!?!" Okay, but I could go to the police today and tell them that my husband told me he was going to strangle me at 5:03 tomorrow, and all that would get me is a lousy piece of paper. Nothing else. What would've happened if people would've spoke up? (I really am curious)

I will call my senators to tell them what I want. I will not vote for politicians who have accepted donations from the NRA and may be influenced by that.

The Parkland shooter obtained his weapon legally. The FBI confirmed that received information about someone who appears to be the shooter in September saying he wanted to be a professional school shooter. Current system is a failure. Time for something new.

They did. FBI was tipped off months ago. He was still able to legally obtain his weapon.
