Hi!
Next week I start my BSN capstone (I graduate in July, thank goodness). I have to come up with a subject for my capstone and I would really like to do something pertaining to school nursing, as that is the field I currently have a foot in the door of, and hope to be full time in the fall.
Anyone have a topic they think would be a good idea for this? I've already done a project on school wellness and the effects of diet/exercise on obesity/diabetes dx. So I would love to do something else for the capstone.
Any help would be appreciated.

What about the school nurse's role in dealing with teen pregnancy, or medication vs comfort measures (ex: you don't need to pop a pill for every little ache and pain)? I am sure there are more, but my brain is fried right now from dealing with end-of-year reports.

I've always been interested in doing research on the difference between schools who have playground equipment vs schools that just have the kids run around in a field for recess. Just from my own experience, the nurse's office was a different place at the school I used to work at because of injuries related to the jungle gym.

Where are you located? One of my fellow students in my online class was in New Jersey and did her capstone on implementing emergency Narcan in their schools. New Jersey is one of the states that is now doing this. It was pretty rad.

Examining the school nurse's role as being the main health care provider for students living in poverty.
To jump off of iggywench's medication vs comfort care, the nurse's role in teaching students how to be responsible for their health care choices.
I am in NH and we actually have narcan in our school district, as well. That would be an interesting topic!
I am sure! We have 7.5 weeks left in NH and everyone is on the verge of the end of year paperwork! Those are very interesting subjects! I also was thinking pain management, my district does not allow students to come to school (unless they're at an end of life scenario) while on a script narcotic. Research on that would be interesting.
I would love to know the difference in those injury rates as well, I will add that to my list of topics to look up!

I think your first suggestion may be my fave. I am so interested in school nursing due to the community health aspect of it, and this would pull that in very well.
These have all given me a lot to look into! Thanks! I knew you would all have some great suggestions!!!

Awesome!! I helped write the NHSNA position statement on that! Unfortunately, our school board does not support it.

You did - that is awesome! My school is hiring a new school physician and one of my first discussion points is the yay/nay on standing orders for Narcan at my school. A lot of MA schools have it. Our fire station (just around the corner) usually responds to me first with O2 and narcan if needed (response time usually
