Dear staff
I wish I knew about my staff members' health, they gather health info on everyone and then ship it off to central office. Because? That's not convenient at all!!!!

Dear staff
They are fine. I had them seen at an ED, however, since she had back pain and wasn't ambulating well at ALL. But she's fine. They gave Advil. Which, honestly, why give a med that's going to take a long time to even help?

Epi Given to Student - My First Time
Amazing! So glad you were there and that EMS was close by!

Dear staff
I applaud your response, but if you ever lift a human that is obviously too dazed to lift themselves, OR MEDICATE THEM FOR PAIN, before I get there to assess, I will happily, and privately berate you for it. I sent out an all staff email applauding the staff for being awesome at responding to an adult who fell, but I laced that puppy with "don't you dare do this again" in the nicest way possible. I would have loved to have seen my face, though, when I got on scene and was told all of this.

What does your cafeteria offer to drink?
Our cafe only has a bubbler (no cups), and the school water tastes funk, and bottled water for sale on top of the cost of lunch. According to the school RN who is in charge of wellness, the federal guidelines are why water is not an option on the hot lunch menu. I have two kids who can only drink water (medical condition) and I had to get a dr's order for them to be given water with their meals and snacks. I have-I can't-I just- I may never be able to go to my kids' peds' office again. I was mortified to have to ask for a Dr's order for WATER.

Friday!!!
We started school Tuesday, have today and Monday off for the Labor Day weekend. School was open though, for us to go in if we wanted, and since I'm a new and have 1 million things to do (and otherwise I would have spent the day home with my three middle school kids) I went up for a few hours. We're having a quiet weekend, one get together at a friend's house, and that is it. I think it's perfect. Enjoy your weekends!!!

What does your cafeteria offer to drink?
What fluids are your students offered in the cafeteria at lunch? I mean within the hot lunch line? Just milk and juice? Do any of your lines offer water as an option without an additional cost?

Talking to the masses...
I've talked with my admin about the kids using their cell phones to call home and ask parents to pick them up. School policy says they can't use their cell phone at school, so they can get in trouble for that when they do it, but at least I know my admin knows and agrees that I need to hear about this when it happens. Thanks for your advice! Both talks are supposed to be short and sweet, so I'm going to try to just throw in the most important topics.

When that impossible to reach, non compliant family finally send in the epi-pen
I laugh, but when I got in my office, all, and I do mean ALL of the creams/lotions/ointments that I am supposed to use on my students were expired. Everything. Like...some in 1994. I had to do a rush order and reorder EVERYTHING.

Talking to the masses...
Monday, I have to give a five minute chat to the teachers about myself and what they need to know about the health office. This should go fine, I've been a teacher, I'm not so worried about that. Tuesday, I have to talk to the entire sixth grade student body about nursing services. What would you focus on with these kids?

Pics of your office please
I changed so much stuff about my office. It had looked the same for a very very very long time. Now, the guidance office has started to copy me. I wanted everything to look comfortable and welcoming. (Middle School)

I'm back...with questions
I hope I never have a parent who wants me to use an essential oil like lavender on their kid. I'm allergic to most flowers and severely allergic to some flowers. Sorry, no can do.

IHP? How often are you doing them?
I have diabetic/seizure/asthma careplans, all of which seem to hit most of my regulars. I do have a few odd little ducks that don't really fit in those categories because they have an unusual diagnosis, so I'll check their 504s and IEPs, and possibly generate an IHP with a parent, but that's about it.
