That's exactly what I'm doing. I signed with an agency. It's more money than going straight through the hospital and there are no minimum requirements and I'm not mandated to work any holidays although I get time and a half if I do pick up a holiday. There have been aloooooooooot of hoops to jump through but I've been working on completing them little by little. I should, hopefully, have them all finished this week. I'm hoping to pick up a shift the day before Thanksgiving because I don't work at the school that day but my kids still go to school (they're in a different district than the one I work in).
I tried to stay per diem at the ER I used to work at when I first started as a school nurse. I had some family stuff going at the time and it became too much for me to manage 2 jobs so I left my per diem ER job. I work at a summer camp as a camp nurse over the summer now. And I am (I think) going to be supervising the junior high theater company which will give me an added stipend here school. So I have found some way to make some extra $$ without have to pick up weekend/holiday shifts.
I tried to stay PRN but it became to much of a hassle - the hospital started to require more out of us PRN workers as far as weekends and holidays...umm no thanks.
I now do PRN Pedi Home Health - love it, I make my own schedule, work 1-2 days per month and pick up extra during all the school holidays on my terms - no holidays unless I decide to work them.

I'm just curious how many of us have or have had in the past a second job? I am preparing to start picking up shifts again in my old NICU unit and I was just wondering if anyone else does the same?
