Scheduled my exam! Any one else testing next week? (July 7th)

Published

I graduated on May 12th and it's been a LONG wait for the state to finally issue authorization to test with Pearson. July 7th at 8 AM is the big day.

Our nursing program gave each graduating nurse a scholarship "gift" of the Kaplan 4-day NCLEX prep. I've been doing practice Q-Bank questions nearly every day. So far, I'm doing pretty well on the trainers & Q-Banks. I simply cannot wait to get this over & done with. I have a job lined up and I cannot start until I pass the NCLEX, per their policy.

Anyone else taking their exam next week?

As long as you're reviewing the rationales, you're still studying content and improving your ability to answer test questions. And 81 is still very, very good. I know HURST recommends 84, but that's not a hard number where anyone who falls below it won't pass. That's still roughly 67% correct. And if you're answering 67% of the questions on NCLEX correctly... you're well on your way. A lot of test banks only expect nursing students to score in the 50's or 60's. It feels so low, right? I don't think any of us are used to essentially getting D's and F's in order to pass. Just remember that it's impossible to know everything. The NCLEX is testing for minimum competency and that's it. And roughly 85-90% of first time test takers are passing... so that's in your favor! :)

Believe in yourself. You can definitely do this.

I agree: You only need to score 58% in order to pass NCLEX. Once the computer gets that you cover this area of study to 58% it moves on. It does not milk you for "B"s and "A"s. D (F) is good enough to work safely!

Hi ZeenurseRN!

Really? I never knew that nclex has a passing percentage score of 58% only! That's crazy! I find your blog post very helpful and inspiring.. I take mine soon and I've been doing questions and reading all the rationales every day. I want great results too! :)

PVL:

Here: please, check this out:

Also, if you think about it: out of 10000 students 8500 do pass. Most of them can not know everything! When you take NCLEX or take care of your patient: think SAFETY! What should you do or don't do to keep patient alive.

What should you do or don't do to keep yourself alive and able to care for the patient?

Then, it just all falls into place!

I would like to clarify that it is possible to pass NCLEX with 58%, in the sense of 58% in each area of study. You need to get 58% of this, and 58% of that, and that.... and that.... Thant makes the whole picture of you passing. Because it makes a 100% pass out of small 58% pieces.

This 58% is, however, is the level of competency: which means you have to ALWAYS do at this level, or HIGHER. Otherwise you will fail:

For those who have not yet done so: please go watch this video:

Hope this helps::laugh:

Hey zeenurseRN,

Thanks for replying and I will have to watch that youtube video to help ease my nervousness... I've got till Saturday for my nclex and am gonna keep doing questions and review the labs and minor stuff to freshen up on. Any more advice would be soo appreciative.. Although I know you've already given tons of your advice on this post! ;)

Good Morning, Good Morning, Good Mo-o-o-o-o-o-o-o-o-o-rning!

Update:

40 hours into (after passing exam) Quick results are still not available. I will be checking again to see if they are posted exactly

48 hours after. That might help some people who read this post to avoid checking in every 15 minutes :)

How is everyone holding together? Some people might actually get the results today already, I suppose?

Cheers!

Hi willow7, I noticed mentioned Uworld, that is one source I have been using. I get good scores then not so good. Did you find the questions asked comparable to the NCLEX? Thanks, testing next week.

Yes, UWorld was very comparable to the NCLEX. I felt as though the NCLEX was maybe a smidge easier, but that can really vary since everyone's test is different. Don't worry too much about your score though, the important thing is to go through their rationales (they're seriously amazing) and understand the content. You can't know everything though (and that's okay!), but going through the rationales is a good start and will better enable you to pick out the correct answer come test time. It's nice too because you'll be asked about the same topics repeatedly, so it's a great way to reinforce your learning. My scores varied between 50-65%, but I didn't get too hung up on scores, I just focused on understanding the rationales. Also, if you're weak in SATA like I was... UWorld is seriously amazing for this since approximately 30% of their test bank is SATA. It's okay to get a bad score sometimes too - this is the place to learn, practice, and make mistakes before you go and sit for your NCLEX. A lot of my SATA content was similar to UWorld's and approximately 50% of my exam was SATA, so I'm extremely thankful that I utilized it.

I'm hanging in there. I've already started refreshing the continental testing site hourly*. I can't seem to help myself.

I keep checking the PV site every hour to see if my results might be in. UGH! I also check the state BON site for a license number. I would definitely be interested to know if yours appeared after the 48 hour mark. Is it 48 hours from when your test was scheduled? Or 48 hours after it ended?

Willow:) It is most likely the results will show up at around 5 pm. I have experienced that myself, and I have read a couple of other posts on allnurses, stating 5 pm, as the time you get to know :)

I exactly know what you feel. Yesterday, I saw pass, and I closed the browser. I had to re-open it 3 times after that, last night, to make sure it was my result, and that I was not seeing things :) LOL

Hi Soprano :)

I think that it is 48 hours since the Pearson Vue website sends you e-mail, statying: now that you have completed your exam....blah, blah....
