  1. Soprano, I'm excited for you too!!! Let us know how it goes? I'm excited to hear about it! A lot of us are about to step into that "new RN" role and it's definitely something that we can share in too. :) I also agree - it feels totally surreal to me too. I just got my paper license in the mail today and it still doesn't feel real. Maybe once I start my job that'll change. But for right now, I still just feel like a student. By the way, I know my comments are all over the place... I'm just playing catch-up on this thread.
  2. ZEEEEEE!!! Congrats on getting that home health job like you wanted! That was so quick! I remember just a week ago you were talking about it... and wow! That's fantastic! I'm so excited for you! :)
  3. BIG CONGRATS to Tokyo, Festinvil, and Vlasta on passing the NCLEX! I'm so happy for all of you!
  4. Ahhh, I'm so excited to hear about everyone's new jobs/lives! You all are going off to do AMAZING things! I have been super crazy busy looking for an apartment, packing, and moving. I waited until after I was sure that I passed the NCLEX to get an apartment close to my new job, so it has literally been a whirlwind of cleaning and putting my life into a bunch of boxes and moving it around. I feel like I haven't gotten a breather since the NCLEX. I'm sorry that I have sort of disappeared from this thread for a few days, but hopefully things will be settling down a bit and I will be checking back in again regularly. :)
  5. Oh, I just looked and mine is up there too! Thank you for posting!
  6. Thank you both for your advice so much. This has given me a lot of information to lookup, think about, and digest. I really appreciate you offering your experience and guidance to me, and taking the time to respond! :)
  7. Nurse-in-the-making2, missnurse792, and ashely82828 -- CONGRATULATIONS! Way to go, RNs! :D:D I agree that this thread has been hugely motivational and uplifting. You are all amazing. :)
  8. I think it's good that it ended on one that you know you got right! I'm holding good thoughts for you! :)
  9. Hello allnurses! I was wondering if you might be able to give a new RN some advice about PACU nursing. I was hired into a PACU nursing residency position in an acute care setting. I know that I will probably learn the most while on the job, but I would really like to put forth the extra effort into learning and understanding nursing care specific to my unit so that I can be safe and knowledgeable in my practice. I also realize that this will most likely be a very stressful and intense transition. What are some procedures/drugs/anything that you would recommend that I become familiar with? Any books that you would recommend? I truly appreciate any advice that you could give me.
  10. I really can't recommend UWorld enough. I used quite a few sources while studying for the NCLEX, but UWorld was far and away my favorite. They offer a 1 week free trial (you get access to their entire test bank), and then you can choose to renew if you like it. It's worth checking out. Their rationales are A-M-A-Z-I-N-G. Other than that, try not to let your anxiety get the best of you - make sure to take time to unwind, relax, and be kind to yourself. You CAN do this. You got through nursing school and made it this far already. You got this! :)
  11. Got my fingers crossed for you and holding good thoughts! :)
  12. Congrats on your job Soprano, that's AMAZING! I'll also be starting on a critical care unit. Zee, I went the nurse residency route as well. I applied to some non-residencies as well, but ended up accepting the residency position that was offered to me because it was the unit I wanted, and residencies also generally offer a longer orientation/more support for new graduates. Here's two links that I found helpful when trying to figure out where to apply: http://www.aacn.nche.edu/education-resources/NRPParticipants.pdf http://academic.son.wisc.edu/studentnet/docs/bsn-nursing-residency-program-resource-guide.pdf Also, if your university has something akin to "career services," definitely utilize these free resources if you have access to them. I got a lot of help with my cover letters and resume. And during the summer, it's pretty easy to get an appointment anytime. Edit: I wanted to add that I think home health is a great option! I just don't have a lot of advice to give on it because I have zero experience with it or how to go about getting into it.
  13. Yep! I have been through the FULL range of emotions today. I just want to give you all a HUGE GIANT HUG! It has honestly been great to have you ladies to go through this together with, thank you for being such amazing support! And congrats to everyone again that has passed so far, and good luck to those that are waiting/testing soon! Hang in there, you're not alone!
  14. I passed! I FREAKIN' PASSED! I felt good about it, but man, it wasn't real until I actually saw it... I still had that inkling of doubt in the back of my mind. I'm so relieved!
