Has anyone gotten a response from the SFSU BSN Program? I emailed someone a while ago and they said it would be rolling around sometime between April and May (how vague :zzzzz). I am just a nervous wreck as everyone else waiting for their ACCEPTANCES (positive thinking!). I think I'm going insane checking the website once or twice a day . I've read somewhere around this forum that people have already been admitted or denied into the MSN program and the Accelerated BSN @ the Canada branch, but I applied at the main campus.
Here's hoping and praying...
I've read the majority of the posts on this thread and after getting the results of my application this afternoon I felt that I owed it to you all to create an account and tell you of my experience. My Statistics
3.64 Overall GPA
3.70 Prerequisite GPA
1/3 Supplemental criteria fulfilled
Last night I checked my admission status online (as I'm sure that many of you have) and when I saw the "Congratulations message" I was immediately optimistic that I was accepted into the bsn program- however after scrolling down further, to my dismay Kinesiology was listed as my primary major. When I found this site and read through the posts of this thread- I came to the conclusion that I was only admitted into SFSU for Kinesiology (not even my secondary choice) but not admitted into the nursing program. I was certain that I had failed.
As you can see, the aforementioned statistics are not consistent with that of many of the other posters on this thread. Call it luck, but I received my acceptance letter in the mail today and I will be part of the Fall 2010 BSN program at SFSU.
The main purpose of this post is to give hope to those of you sitting on the edge of your seat. I want to let you know that if you don't have a 4.0 GPA and haven't fulfilled 3/3 of the supplemental criteria you still have a chance! Just wait until you get that letter in the mail before you give up hope.
I do have some questions about preparation for the Fall 2010 semester if an experienced SFSU nursing student or alumni is willing to spare the time.
Best of luck to you all!
4.0 pre-reqs and overall and 1/3 supplemental and I got waitlisted. =(
curious what was you supplemental 1/3? I only had volunteering.
CONGRATs though!

I can tell you my supplemental experience was working. I worked for a physical therapy and sports training practice where my primary job was receptionist, but I also worked as a PT aide doing ultrasound on patients, setting up patients on electrical stimulation, ice, and directing with exercises as needed. It was all in the letter from my employer for 6 1/2 years.
Maybe they rank paid direct patient care experience higher than volunteer experience?

^ they aren't taking anyone for the spring.
They take 40 for Fall and 40 for Spring to the University program itself. I know the Cohort program at Canada they only take 40 in the fall. I was told this at the information session I went to last year.
Sorry you got wait listed, hopefully someone will decline and you can get their spot. I will keep my fingers crossed for you.

Hi Brighten,
My 1/3 supplemental qualification came from my experience as an EMT on critical care ambulance. Prior to sending in my application I called the nursing department to see if they would consider my service in the Marine Corps and Army National Guard as Multicultural experience- when that didn't work, I asked if my volunteer experience as a firefighter would be adequate and was told that it would not suffice.
I'm unsure of the basis on which SFSU chooses to accept applicants into their program, but apparently my application was reflective of someone that they wanted to invest in- for that I am happy.
On another note- does anyone have advice in regards to the mandatory Segment III cluster courses that SFSU requires for graduation? Also, are there any courses that can be taken this Summer that will help to ease the strain for the next 5 semesters?

I am not sure about the segment III cluster, on my DARS report it said I could pick my cluster after orientation. I know there are a few history classes that are required for graduation that I am taking now. I would go online and check your DARS report and see if there is anything there you have missing besides Segment III.

Hello,
I got my letter from SFSU today, unfortunately I was placed on the waiting list Does anyone know what are the chances? I have been getting mixed answers from friends about this. Some of my friends say that they know alot of people who were on the waitlist and still managed to get in. What should I do? Thanks!
