San Francisco State University (SFSU) BSN Program

Published

Has anyone gotten a response from the SFSU BSN Program? I emailed someone a while ago and they said it would be rolling around sometime between April and May (how vague :zzzzz). I am just a nervous wreck as everyone else waiting for their ACCEPTANCES (positive thinking!). I think I'm going insane checking the website once or twice a day :banghead:. I've read somewhere around this forum that people have already been admitted or denied into the MSN program and the Accelerated BSN @ the Canada branch, but I applied at the main campus.

Here's hoping and praying... :nurse:

yea that's one of the schools i have on my list of applications. i know i'll have at least a 3.7 GPA FOR SURE. what else do you know? maybe you can give me some info, ideas and other pointers before i apply next sem. anything is appreciated.

i know cal state fresno is exactly the same as SFSU plus the TEAS exam. and i know UCD is starting a nursing program MSN 2010 and a BSN in 2011.

are u considering private schools? i got in USF too, and I believe they're pretty easy in accepting people. they only look at your grades, plus your common application to the university. i applied to city college of san francisco, too. they only look at your grades, but it's lottery and it's associate degree. same with CSM (college of san mateo). That's all i know, those are the only schools i applied to, apart from CSU east bay and SFSU. 3.7 is a high gpa, if you get a high score on your TEAS, i think you'll be able to get in csu east bay. for csu east bay, 50% is alloted for gpa, 40% for the TEAS, 10% for the other supplemental stuff. so TEAS is important and can bring up your score (over 100) even if your gpa is not that high, and vice versa. my friend only got a 81% on her TEAS, but she had a high gpa so she got in csu east bay. also, csu east bay accepts your highest TEAS score, so you can take it multiple times.

hmm intersting. yes, USF is on my list too. it's my only private school on the list hehe... but yea, that's very helpful. thanks. yes these are the one i'm applying too. by the way, you sound much more eased up and relaxed. i think its because you got into sfsu.

USF, CSUEB, CSUF, SFSU, SJSU?, CSUSB?, Hartnell, Evergreen Valley, CCSF, Cabrillo, and CSUStanislaus?. they're all ranging from Salinas to Santa Cruz all the way to Stanislaus and to Hayward.

oh and i'm going to be taking my last 2 prereqs for sfsu next sem too. they're physiology and anatomy. but i still have to take organic/bio chem and human development spring 2010 for other schools.

Reading through this post, I noticed some transfer students were wondering about the Segment III GE requirements for SF State. I just wanted to throw out there that I highly recommend taking some Holistic Health courses for this requirement (they're available in both the Holistic Health cluster and the Healthcare Policies cluster). I learned some good relaxation and focus techniques that I think will surely be useful once I begin the BSN program next fall, as well as information about plenty of alternative perspectives of health and practices throughout the world-in my opinion an excellent compliment to the conventional nursing profession..

Of course, there are plenty of other options. Just pick something that seems interesting. It can be annoying having to take more GE classes (especially when I believe SFSU is the only campus that requires these extra units..), but it's a good opportunity to branch out and learn something new.

(:

Hi Cotton_Candies,

I got in CSUEB, too. Both programs are really good. Both are also 2.5 years long (I know the CSUEB nursing website says that it's 3 years, but when I went to the info meeting, they said it's 2.5 years). I guess it's just a matter of which is nearer to where you are? East Bay is a really good school, though. And parking and registering for classes is not as bad as SFSU's. At State, it's so hard to get into classes or find parking coz there's too many students, haha. But their nursing program is good. Well, both have really good nursing programs. :)

Hi Kayellow,

I think I will go to SFSU, so we'll be classmates ;) I live in Mountain View, so it is a bit of a drive for me. But it also will take me about 30 mins to get to CSUEB. SFSU was my first choice anyway eieie.

I heard from the nursing department that they would send out the nursing orientation package in June. Anyone know what I should expect from that package? I will be out of the country for the whole month.. not sure if I will miss any important events for nursing program.

Thanks

yea, there are lots of reqs. but who knows? i may get in or not...

and they have more prereqs, like the next english level, not just composition. and they're sicence GPA has to be high and taken 5 years before applicaiton. a course in human development, etc...ahhh.

i really dont know, i'm at the point to where i'll just go to whatever school accepts me. i gave up the dream of having sfsu as #1.

plus sjsu says that you MUST HAVE ALL prereqs completed and no longer in progress. they changed their nursing admissions criteria recently this year. so i dont think i can even go since i'm still a freshman and i still have to take anatomy and physiology, but i'll be ready for other schools by this fall 09.

i go to Gavilan College in Gilroy if that helps for location. i've also been thinking about Hartnell in Salinas or Cal State Stanislaus. Fresno state is also an open option. I don't really know much about nor cal schools.

Hi Solidus_Snake,

I applied everywhere from CSUEB, SFSU, CSU fresno, CSU Sac. However, didn't apply for SJSu 'cuz too lazy to take WST eieie

my gpa is not perfect..only 3.7, and 3.9 for pre-req. I got 90% TEAS. I am a bilingual. No working experience or any volunteer works.

I think you can do it!

Good luck

thanks Cotton_Candies. i needed the encouragement really bad. i'm beginning to feel like i'm not 'good' enough for some schools. anyways, i just gave up in applying to sjsu so that's no longer on my list. i'm applying to fresno state this coming august and i'm very nervous since it's going to be the 1st nursing school i'll be applying to though it'd be nice to get into sfsu still but i need to wait until then.

from the looks of it, this year's competition for SFSU wasn't very fierce as compared to the ones before, or it's just probably me... i currently have a 3.7 GPA total and prereq and i'm going to finish my last 2 prereqs for sfsu (anatomy and physiology) fall 09. i also am multilingual and i have done multicultural and health volunteer work but they all seem to overlap each other in experience(hospice, elderly, poor, hungry...). 1 letter for multicultural and 2 letters for health but i'm getting more done before application time. i hope i can get in sfsu with at least a 3.8 prereq GPA and 5/3 supplementals.

anyways, i'll need all the hope and luck i can get before i apply to SFSU this coming Fall 09, then i'll have to go through the waiting torture that you all went through and all everything else.

thanks.

Hi Cotton_Candies,

I'm not sure what's gonna be on the nursing orientation packet, but most likely, it will contain information about how to register for our classes. You could email the nursing department and ask, inform them that u will be out of the country. :)

See you in spring! :D

Solidus_Snake,

You should be fine. Don't worry. You have so much to offer.

Talking about CSU Fresno, if you apply for it, you'll get in for sure. I got accepted for csu fresno as well. Many of my friends who applied there also got in. They only look at your GPA and prereq. No TEAS...no WST.. easy. eieie But It is soooooooooooo FAR.. however, rent is really really cheap..

Good luck.

hi all, i just got accepted to sfsu nursing for spring 2010 after being on the waitlist. also, i have already turned in my acceptance packet to chico for fall 2009. sfsu was #1 choice but when i was waitlisted, i accepted chico's offer. should i go to sfsu or chico? please reply soon as i have less time to make a decision. is anyone currently attending sf? if so, how nice are the instructors/clinical sites? do they try to "weed out" people?

you should go to sfsu(i'm being biased)! it may be pretty expensive in sf though compared to chico but both schools have excellent nursing programs. i hear both have excellent instuctors and all and i guess they try to 'weed' people out in some ways, only if you cant handle things. my advise for you is to go to the school that is more cheaper and convenient for you and maybe your loved ones because after nursing school, you'll be like all the other fresh nursign grads from different schools---> taking the nclex, job searching, etc... and it wouldn't really make a difference to what nursing school you went to as long as you are an rn. there is a nursing shortage so i guess any school you decided to go to is good. but to me personally, i'd think you should go to the school that can make your life easier and doesnt cost an arm and a leg.

good luck and good job!
