San Francisco State University (SFSU) BSN Program

Published

Has anyone gotten a response from the SFSU BSN Program? I emailed someone a while ago and they said it would be rolling around sometime between April and May (how vague :zzzzz). I am just a nervous wreck as everyone else waiting for their ACCEPTANCES (positive thinking!). I think I'm going insane checking the website once or twice a day :banghead:. I've read somewhere around this forum that people have already been admitted or denied into the MSN program and the Accelerated BSN @ the Canada branch, but I applied at the main campus.

Here's hoping and praying... :nurse:

hey guys,

congratulations to those who got in!!! i am on the waiting list, so does anyone of you know when sfsu will notify those on the waiting list if they are in or not? i'm tempted to call the nursing department, just to check my status on the waiting list. any thoughts? thanks.

hi rawallace,

It won't hurt to call the nursing department. Call the admissions coordinator, Mr. Robert Strachan. Go to the sfsu nursing website and look for the directory. He should be on there. Mr. Strachan was the one who helped me a lot with the application process and with what I was supposed to do when I found out that I got in. So yeah. He answers calls and emails, and even returns your calls when you end up going to his voice mail.

I have 2 weeks from 4/20 to submit my intent to register, but I'm still waiting. I called the nursing coordinator and that didnt' really help. so what happens if i declare my intent to register but end up choosing another university?

You should receive your letter by then. That's weird, most of us received our letters early 2nd week of april, I think. So you should have gotten yours already. ;o Call Mr. Robert Strachan (just like what I said to rawallace). He's really helpful and he knows his stuff. He's the admissions coordinator/specialist so he should be able to help you out. And I guess if you declare your intent to register, it won't hurt to take it back when you end up going somewhere else, just to be sure.

aww, it's alright. there's always other schools. best of luck to u! :)

I just found out that I also got in CSUEB for BSN program this Fall 2009. Now I am not sure what to do. Any recommendations? Which school is better between SFSU and CSUEB?

Thanks

Hi Cotton_Candies,

I got in CSUEB, too. Both programs are really good. Both are also 2.5 years long (I know the CSUEB nursing website says that it's 3 years, but when I went to the info meeting, they said it's 2.5 years). I guess it's just a matter of which is nearer to where you are? East Bay is a really good school, though. And parking and registering for classes is not as bad as SFSU's. At State, it's so hard to get into classes or find parking coz there's too many students, haha. But their nursing program is good. Well, both have really good nursing programs. :)

Thanks. Just wanted to know how long the program is. I am a transfer student from Pasadena City College. I am planning to fly to San Francisco to check out the school and what not. I got accepted for SFSU's BSN for Fall 2009.

Once again, Congrats to all!

Hi LAnurse89,

Wow, you're all the way from LA? Did you get accepted to other schools? SFSU has a really good nursing program. It's 2.5 years. The only problem at SF state is that, like what I said to cotton_candies, parking is impossible and registering for classes is really hard coz there's a lot of students. But it has a really good nursing program, though :) St. Mary's is good, too. I heard about that school but never applied coz it's far from where I live. SF state is really near my house so I'm going there :)

bxdo, what were your stats? i'm sorry that you got rejected. that's one of my fears for next year after i apply. hopefully you can get into another nursing program. i'm thinking about applying to sjsu as well though i know i'm not going to get in. my teas exam is actually next saturday at sjsu.

I think it's easier to get in at SJSU's nursing program. I had a friend who applied to that program back in 2007, she only had a 3.5 gpa in prereqs but she got in. She didn't get in SFSU, though. So yeah. The thing is, SJSU has a lot of requirements. I believe they require one more chemistry class (so that's 2 chem classes in total, as opposed to only one at sfsu, csueb, usf, csm, ccsf, etc.), and you have to take the WST prior to applying to the program. Plus there's the TEAS.

yea, there are lots of reqs. but who knows? i may get in or not...

and they have more prereqs, like the next english level, not just composition. and they're sicence GPA has to be high and taken 5 years before applicaiton. a course in human development, etc...ahhh.

i really dont know, i'm at the point to where i'll just go to whatever school accepts me. i gave up the dream of having sfsu as #1.

plus sjsu says that you MUST HAVE ALL prereqs completed and no longer in progress. they changed their nursing admissions criteria recently this year. so i dont think i can even go since i'm still a freshman and i still have to take anatomy and physiology, but i'll be ready for other schools by this fall 09.

i go to Gavilan College in Gilroy if that helps for location. i've also been thinking about Hartnell in Salinas or Cal State Stanislaus. Fresno state is also an open option. I don't really know much about nor cal schools.

Apply to CSU East Bay (hayward). There are less people who apply there (compared to sfsu) and they have about 113 slots every year. I heard, from the admissions director herself, on one of the info meetings that usually an average of 800 people apply to their program, but usually, almost half of the people don't even meet the minimum requirements (such as the 3.0 overall science gpa, etc). So basically, only about 400-500 people compete for 113 spots. That gives u a better chance, especially if you got a high gpa. At sfsu, about 1200 people apply for 80 spots.
