Salary to expect as a new grad nurse

Nurses New Nurse

Published

Hello all. just reading different threads and wondering what does the starting salary look like for a grad nurse? i live the in Atlanta area so any ball park figure will do. thanks!

I work in Florida home health. RN new grad $22-26 home health. Hospitals are few $s less to start.

In Central Ohio it ranges mostly from $22-25 this includes a hospital, nursing home, and the health department. Not counting diffs for places that offer them.

Specializes in LTC.

I'm not sure how much I'll make as a RN or LPN grad nurse...But reading these boards have really helped me make some decisions...I was going to go for my bachelors or masters but it seems there isn't much pay difference...I definitely want my RN but my child is VERY young so why spend MORE time going to school when she's young...For me it makes more sense to get my RN and then after my child(ren) are grown and I'm bored (empty-nester) go back for my masters or whatever...I work in a nursing home and the director of nursing and assistant director of nursing are both RNs who got their degrees from the local cc (which is my plan initiallly), of course they were both aides at the facility and have been there for 10 plus years (I'm an aide there right now)...The resident care manager (another office job) is a LPN but I'm not sure where she got her degree...AND I don't know if I want to be a nurse manager...Maybe someday but right now my passion is floor nurse in a LTC facility. They did quote me 13-16 per hour as a nurse tech (I'll need to complete pharm so 3rd quarter of the nursing program.)

I live in north central IL and the area seems to pay new grad rns anywhere from 19 to 22 per hour base pay and then most of the hospitals pay 3 dollar shift diff for midnights. Its not bad for the area since the cost of living is lower then Chicago.

Specializes in ICU, ED.

At the LA hospital that I am starting at soon we make $29.50 for days with weekend/night differential and a raise a few months in

Depends on LOCATION then it depends on what SPECIALITY your getting into...I know ICU's & ER's will give you an added $2-4 once your off orientation...then add more $$ on if you get more certifications. Plus shift diffs. It all depends but I think it ranges from $19-30 AND if you work in a dr.s office or hospital

I agree almostnurse1983....it greatly depends on where you live & what speciality you are going for.

N'body know hourly rate for LPN's in Terre Haute area? Nursing Homes and Hospitals

wow. im actually suprised to see that the hourly wage is very low in other part of USA...I know my classmates got hired at Alta Bates, Oakland, California for $39 or so..as a new grad...wow..no wonder it is so hard to find job in bay area huh...way better pay than other areas...hew..

Specializes in Psych.

In Vegas at the hospital I want to work at:

$28 base

$2 more nights

$2 more weekends

New grad with all benefits. Not too shabby. An apt is about 900.

D

in 2002 in Washington state, my new grad pay was as a per-diem nurse on a med/surg ortho floor - rate $27/hr.

hm, and no state income tax, that's pretty darn good. It just so happens the little rain we get in philly is just too much for me. When i feel like dealing with hard core rain, WA is the first on my list.

Here in California I make $45.97/hr starting as a new grad.
