  1. So true. Sorry about this. I have learned from your posts. I hope you find something better or at least good. Best wishes.
  2. your per diem will be another job. If you're single, you don't need to do any worksheet unless you want to itemize and claim a bunch of things in which case, a tax professional can look at your situation and assist you. Basically, the higher the number you put on there, the less money is withheld and the more you get. Now depending on how much you make overall at a different job, that could put you in a different tax bracket and cause you to owe during tax season if less is withheld from your per diem job. I hope this helps.
  3. I work for a large health system that has gotten rid of that. It's outsourced and there is no onsite anymore. It's a website, you have to email or call. I called earlier in the year last year and emailed. Guess when I got a response re; the issue, november and that is when they corrected it. They used to have HR when I started but now it's there, just outsourced.
  4. Just don't stay in the hospital too long. We sacrifice our bodies lifting these patients and when you get hurt, it's not fun. The question is why the hospital if your goal is home health? Tele is busy but good experience. Is your goal to gain experience?
  5. Do you invoice, have a dedicated area or room in your house you use regularly for this such as reconciling records, planning, etc? you can deduct office in home. As to mileage, the person above me is right, it's 53.5 so deduct your reimbursement. You can deduct your licenses, union dues, professional magazine subscriptions as well. Are you an employee or self employed? If an employee, these will go on form 2106 and be subject to the 2% limitation. If you're self employed, then it goes on schedule C. Forgot, you can deduct mileage or actual expenses. Did you keep mileage records or do you use your car solely for this? If you're doing actual expenses, then it's the percentage use that you deduct. It's best to do both and go with the highest. If you got a new car and you're told to deduct sec 179, know that if you do, you can't take mileage on that car in subsequent years. You can however revoke sec 179.
  6. I actually got my license at about 2 weeks after mailing the transcript. I think they're pretty efficient compared to other states.
  7. I work in a PCU in one teaching hospital and the ratio is 5-6, mostly 6. A lot of times, dayshift come in to 1:6 ratio. They've been trying to make it 5 at all times but it's not been working. It's so stressful, can't even take a break to eat or pee, just busy, busy, busy. The turnover is atrocious and I sucked it up for years. I started floating to the PCU at a large academic medical center and their ratio is 1:3max, phlebotomy comes around q2-3hrs to draw labs, much less stress and it's just wonderful. Obviously, I'm working less at my old job and I wonder why i'm still there each week I go there. Yes, my other job pays about $3 more than the regular staffers at my new place make but I've come to a point where I'd take less money if that eliminates the stress. The good part is I actually get time and half plus at the newer place since i'm float. As others have said, all PCUs are not created equal. I say find a place where you can learn without the stress of task-focused care.
  8. It took 3 weeks to get the TPP last year. I didn't mail my transcript; just sent it in last week so i can't tell the time frame for the license.
  9. I couldn't find a job in the philly area when I graduated several years so I came to maryland. The advantage is that if you work in maryland, you can claim exemption from their state tax in which case they take out PA taxes instead. Commuting each day is awful though. I would look for a place to stay while you're here. I decided to move to philly this year while still working in MD till I found a job in philly. if you have any questions, let me know.
  10. The NM has 5 standard questions she absoolutely has to ask you and they're all situational. Otherwise, the rest are questions she thinks of and wants to know about you. The recruiter also has 2 questions she has to asks, in addition to a few petty ones. The rest are general info questions they want to know based on your resume. I think their inteview process is quite easy or at least easier than I'd expected. I know this thread is old but I'm posting for those who're wondering what it's like. It was hard for me to find this info when I came here looking. Good luck
  11. Thanks, I have an idea of how much the pay rate is now.
