  1. Please give your advise/opinion on this masters in informatics with health concentration. I have already gotten the admission into the program. It is an online program at a California state university, which pretty close to where I live. I want to get into project management, analytics, and system analysis. I am thinking to take some additional courses in analytics once I am done with this program. Please advise. Thanks. https://ischool.sjsu.edu/ms-informatics
  2. What exactly is the tittle of your degree and which school did you go to?
  3. It is better to get degree in proper tech than in NI. It's waste of time and money. Anyone can be accepted into NI program.
  4. JMR85112, Congrats on your acceptance into nursing program. You will do great. Do you have facebook or something? I want to keep in touch with you for career basis and future opportunities. Thanks.
  5. Thanks. Recently I went to a CS bridge program that offers masters in CS to non-CS background students. The same school also offers general MIS. I am sooo confused in picking the program. Can’t decide between CS and MIS. Because i don’t want to pick the wrong one. One thing is for sure. I been reading the job postings a lot and they are asking quite technical skills (data base skills, programming) for informatics/analyst positions. If u had not done CS and u were a nurse....would u have picked MIS or CS? I want to pick the best one for future and be very marketable so i wont have tough time finding a job.
  6. Sorry, but why are you trying to do RN. You have CS degree. You can work in hospital IT dept without RN degree??? I am RN but i need tech related degree not sure if i should go for CS or MIS. About your age too.
  7. So you recommend doing MIS with analytics than just doing Ms in analytics right? I cant find good local MIS program. Ok i will stay away from walden.
  8. What do you think of Walden University. Masters in Information Technology with specialization in data analytics? Or should I do masters in data analytics in a public university? Or masters in informatics in public university? https://www.waldenu.edu/online-masters-programs/ms-in-information-technology/curriculum/big-data-analytics http://www.sjsu.edu/pdp/programs/msda/ http://ischool.sjsu.edu/ms-informatics
  9. I am 29 yr old male and have never coded. I thought of doing master in computer science but it seems very hard and too much maths. Then I thought of MIS and can't decide which school to go to because most of them want you to know 1 programming language, and have GRE tests and require high level Maths. Then I though of doing Master in Health informatics and lean some programming on the side when I am done. Most of the jobs on the job board ask for Master in health or nursing informatics. I am very confused. I know you are more knowledgeable in this area. Please advise on how to go about this. Thanks a lot. If possible can I talk to you on whatsapp or in email? Please let me know and thanks you for helping.
  10. I think the another benefit of Master in information system with analytics degree instead of just nursing informatics degree is that you can work in other fields too, outside of healthcare such as regular IT companies. What you think?
  11. What do you have MSN in? What master degree do you recommend for this field?
  12. I have few questions about Health IT field. Currently, I am trying to get into this field but don't have the proper guidance by anyone because I don't know anyone who works in this field. I have worked as an LVN for 5-6 years in sub-acute nursing facilities. I have BSN and have been working at at a local hospital. I have lots of interest in this field and read Nursing Informatics book in my free time. I wanted to ask how do I get into health IT for a position like informaticist or analyst or even a entry level position? Do I first need to get into a big hospital for a nursing job and then try to get into their IT dept somehow? Do I need masters to get in? I was also thinking of doing masters but not sure if I should do it purely in "Nursing/health Informatics" or in general "Masters in Information Technology". What would be the best masters degree to pick for this field for long-term? I feel like its hard to get into this field but I really want to, please guide me how do I get my foot in the door in this field? I have no certifications of any kind yet. Please advise. Thank you for your time.
  13. Hello. I need some advise. I've been an LVN for last 6 yrs in SNF. I recently became RN Bsn. Right now I have two job offers, one is from the local hospital ( 8 hour shift/ 5 days) Telemetry dept which pays just alright and the other is from Home health which also pays just alright. I am in CA and hospital jobs are very hard to come by here specially for new grads. Both are full time. Home health pays per visit basis but with benefits. I think i can make more in home health due to per visit basis. But I dont know which one to pick. In the future i want to open up my own home health agency which would be in 3-4 years. Should i just pick hospital for now and then do home health on the side (1-2 patients a week). Then after 1 year get a job in a different hospital that pays more and do 3 days there and other 3 days in home health. What do you guys advise. Thanks!!
