Roll Call, LPN to RN Students!!!

Published

Stop by, introduce yourself, say a little about yourself. :)

Hi,

I am 51 and looking to enroll in LPN-RN Bridge program at local community college. I noticed that you went back to school at about the same age as I. Did you finish yet? Any suggestions on going back to school at our age and after being out of school for yrs?

Thanks

I have found that the older students make it through the program better than the younger ones. We have more life experience under our belts and in my case, I have

a lot of support from my family. I am 12 weeks away from my pinning ceremony and if I do not make it, my family will be more disappointed than me.

hello all, i'm excited to be able to join this part of the forum. i am 31 and finally going back for rn. i have been a lpn since 2002. i left nursing in 2009 and have been working in health information management. i've always wanted to be a rn and now that a local college is offering career mobility online- i am all over it. i am only hoping that i can make it through a year of working in med-surg after i graduate. i want the experience but i seriously don't know if i can physically handle it. i have congenital back and hip problems that really foul up when i am on my feet constantly. :crying2: the reason i left nursing in the first place. but after achieving rhia i know that rn education can be put to use in that field as well so i am still gonna give it all i have! good luck to everyone, i hope we all reach our goal.

first mini goal for myself--making it through micro this summer. this is the only prereq that i lack and i'm not looking forward to it.

I will start my LVN to RN transition class in June and if I pass start the RN class Fall 2011. I graduated May 2010 and got my VN license Dec 2010. I am very nervous and excited about the LVN to RN program. I have to retake the TEAS test which sucks but at least I am on my way to my goal.

You will make it an do just fine!! I finished in December of 2010, graduated with HONORS, and was among the oldest in my class!! If I can do it after 20 years of being out, you can do it too!!! Go show them how it's done! Best wishes on your journey! Remember, you are achieving your dreams...I am now on for my Master's degree! (Family Nurse Practitioner) You got this! ;-)

yeah...LOL...You will find out how strong you ARE, how challenging school after 40 can be, (you know about that by now I am sure!!!) and just how awesome you feel as you gain that sense of accomplishment!!! I cried, threatened to quit...(No, seriously, I threatened to QUIT!!!) Could not for the LIFE of me figure out how the 20 somethings were handling school, while they juggled their partying schedules...Threatened to KILL all the 20 somethings....Wondered why I ever did this to begin with....Threatened to KILL my husband....wanted to eat myself into oblivion, all while I was studying and praying the info would stick... Did I mention I wanted to KILL my instructors, their offspring and the adjunct staff as well??? Then, I threatened to quit once, and one of those stinkin' 20 somethings informed me that it was only 2 days to graduation...I finally relaxed!!! LOL If you have ANY of those feelings, RELAX you are normal and will be just fine!! My advice? Read this post MONTHLY to inspire confidence in your "I candoitness"!!! Happy studies...and remember, Nursing is a PROCESS!!! LOL

@ Robinlyna You just described me in the LVN program. I can't believe I am about to subject myself and my family to that again but having only been an LVN for a short time I know I need to do this. I never thought of myself as a good student. I just did what my parents wanted and now at 37 I am going to school willingly how crazy is that. I truly enjoy this profession and I am so happy I have decided to do this, even if I am going to be a crazy nut in a few months. Anyway I wish all my nursing sisters the best.
