Do u know of any law that protects RN's home address from being published on the internet? I've had a patient tell me that they know where I live. I'm in constant contact with pysch patients....sometimes incarcerated inmates come in too. (I work in a federal hospital)
I emailed the website requesting for them to remove my name but they refused stating that it is public knowledge. Police officers, district attorney, psychiatric social workers employed by a county are all allowed to have their records confidential. (V C Section 1808.4 Confidential Records Address of Public Officers and Employees) but why not RNs?:uhoh3:
Do you have any info on how I can protect the safety of my daughter and I? (Moving is not an option):confused::confused:

I discussed this matter with the CA board at one time and was told that an individual can have their address withheld upon written request (except from entities like law enforcement or the IRS). They provided a term to be used in the request (which I have forgotten). Of course, nobody knows about this and I doubt it is even acknowledged. As one who has been stalked related to my employment as a nurse, I find this appalling. But think about it, if someone wants to stalk and harass you, all they have to do is to go to your place of employment or any other locale that you frequent, and follow you home. Easy as that. I know, very well.
Standard precautions. A personal weapon, I sleep with mine. Training in personal defense. Hook up with a professional who assists with these problems. It would help if you had relatives or friends or an employer who is interested in your well being and that of your daughter. When you are alone, well, you are alone.

I did not know this was possible..scary...
This has been discussed on this site in the past. Basically the bottom line is that a person is on their own when it comes to personal safety. Law enforcement will be the first to tell you that you have absolutely no recourse until an actual crime against your person is committed. Of course, it doesn't matter that the first actual assault could result in your death. That is your problem, and law enforcement officers will tell you that.

Wait, what? Where do they display our addresses? The BRN website only lists the county that a nurse got her license in.

In Florida, if you give them your work address they will use that address instead of your home address.

Make sure your last name is not on your name badge, or cover it with tape or a cute smiley sticker. If they don't know your last name, they can't look you up.

The website for California is http://www2.dca.ca.gov/pls/wllpub/wllqryna$lcev2.startup?p_qte_code=RN&p_qte_pgm_code=7800 and it only lists the county, not your whole address.

How about a P.O. Box Number? This really makes me think of identity protection

Just "google" yourself sometime to see all the info that is available on yourself! Absolutely terrifying.
I would contact your state board of nursing and find out how you can mask your contact information. Did you know that you can search by last name and find out if your license is active, where you work, and sometime where you live on many board of nursing websites? Your patients and aquaintances can do this as well-public knowledge as licensed health care providers. Pls call them and ask how you can mask your information and for your own peace of mind take some self-defense classes. Not to be alarmist, but to protect you and your family.
