RN's home address is accessible fm Internet

Do u know of any law that protects RN's home address from being published on the internet? I've had a patient tell me that they know where I live. I'm in constant contact with pysch patients....sometimes incarcerated inmates come in too. (I work in a federal hospital)

I emailed the website requesting for them to remove my name but they refused stating that it is public knowledge. Police officers, district attorney, psychiatric social workers employed by a county are all allowed to have their records confidential. (V C Section 1808.4 Confidential Records Address of Public Officers and Employees) but why not RNs?:uhoh3::uhoh3:

Do you have any info on how I can protect the safety of my daughter and I? (Moving is not an option):confused::confused::confused::confused::confused:

Specializes in OR, public health, dialysis, geriatrics.

After being robbed a few year's ago, the investigating officer recommended a PO Box for all liscensure, insurance, etc in order to give criminals no information whatsoever on where you live. Good idea if you ask me.

Specializes in Medical/Oncology, Family Practice.

Don't let them know your last name. I was always taught that unless you are a supervisor, your last name does not need to be revealed. Or, like someone else suggested, get a PO box.

I never knew how unsafe we are, I also think a P O Box will be the best.

Unfortunately lots of workplaces put your last name on your employee badge without asking for your permission or it is stated in policy that first and last names must be on badges. I would prefer to never have my last name on my badge.

Specializes in NICU.
Make sure your last name is not on your name badge, or cover it with tape or a cute smiley sticker. If they don't know your last name, they can't look you up.

This works unless you have a one of a kind name like I do. I have even considered changing my first name.

If at all possible, cover your last name. I've had a couple of stalkers and would not wish that on anyone.
