My nurse co worker made a comment that kinda irked me. Wondering what I should do with this situation. I am going back to school for an LPN-BSN. I am halfway through the program. Anyways I'm explaining to her in a work conversation, a friendly one, that I am no longer eligible for the COVID vaccine because my 4 year old son and my 35 year old brother both got dx with viral triggered autoimmune type 1 diabetes. She hits me with the "You really shouldn't be a nurse because you are a hypochondriac." She has also called me "crazy" in the past. she is not joking she is "constructively criticizing" me. Should I ignore her, get my BSN and become her boss until she retires?
Ignore her comments, kill her with kindness, keep your personal stuff "personal" and be your own boss! Climb every mountain-------till you find your dream! Life is too short ! Surround yourself with people who are the wind beneath your wings as you fly high----!(Binge watching musicals!)
Sorry you felt discouraged, nurses can be harsh sometimes. We should be building up and encouraging others. On another front....I am fascinated by your statement and definitely would have raised an eyebrow if you said it around me......Type 1 diabetes is often triggered by viruses (in people likely already genetically per-disposed) ... From my mindset.....that would be more reason to get the vaccine.
Type 1 diabetes is an autoimmune disease but from what I've read, they are specifically encouraged to get the vaccine.
Type 1 diabetes is an autoimmune disease that causes the body to kill off its own insulin producing cells. Unlike type 2 diabetes, there exists no link between body size and type 1 diabetes. Type 1 diabetes usually starts in childhood but can start in adulthood too. Type 1 diabetes can come quickly and symptoms can get st...

I'm pretty sure many of us are hypochondriacs ? My mom is a nurse and tends towards self diagnosis. I turned out to have brca2 from my dad which has killed 3 generations of women in my family, so had a prophilactic mastectomy. I'm sure someone called me a hypochondriac behind my back. I don't care anymore. You do whats safe for you and your family and ignore this lady. Hopefully she didn't mean to be a jerk, but I wouldn't give her a se cond chance.
Get used to lots of people being jerks. Bosses, coworkers, family, neighbors, other drivers, etc., etc.
It's called Life.
Learn to let it roll off, consider the source, all that good advice. I love that you have a good sense of humor, OP.
Must read up on Type 1 DM. Had no idea it was due to a virus, at least sometimes.
Great advice! It's true learn to not take it seriously, my first year as a new nurse was brutal and with time I grew a thick skin, not impenetrable but you get used to the jerks of life and learn to co exist with them. Best of luck!
My advice is never react and let these idiots know they got under your skin.

Confront her in a professional manner. Just tell her you don't appreciate her condescending comments about your personal life and you feel like she's creating a hostile environment. Majority of the time people like that will back down. Throughout my life there always been at least 1 person who tries to get like that with me. After I confront them it's ceased the bad relationship and they either stay away from me or they do a 180 and become super nice. If it continues next step is speak with charge or your manager.
