In preparation for getting a BSN, I am trying to gather information regarding online BSN programs. if you have links to what you feel is an affordable, online, no residency requirement program, please post 'em here.
One program that I came across was at Thomas Edison State College. does anyone have any information regarding their program? I was hoping to find someone that has first hand (or second hand ? ) experience with the TESC RN to BSN program as it seems to be an affordable option, which, of course, is always a bonus. from reading the catalog on their site it appears that you can use some of the EC exams to satisfy the upper-level nursing courses.
The TESC program looks pretty decent but I am looking for some feedback to any online rn to BSN program. if anyone has links to what they feel is an affordable online rn/bsn program please post the link here.
Online Nursing Degree Programs at Thomas Edison State University
Hello,
I am an Assistant Director of Admission for a University. I have lots of experience as this is my specialty. I would tell you to make sure that the program is accredited both at the univeristy and program level. Look for regional or national accreditation at the college/university level and CCNE at the program level.
Make sure that the school you choose to attend has a long history in the BSN programs. Many school just started their programs and aren't very strong. You want a school with a strong history. Your best option is a school that has a ground campus that has a strong program and then an online program that mirrors the ground program. This will ensure that you have a real University to deal with and that the program has a proven track history.
You can always go to this website for more information:
http://www.ope.ed.gov/accreditation/Search.asp
It's the US DOE website for accred schools.
You can always email me and I can answer your questions.
Good luck and let me know if you need help.
I am really sorry to hear about your problems with UOW. I work in admissions at a university and specialize in Nursing programs. I make it a point to keep up on issues and make sure the process is as easy as possible.
I would reccomend that you look for a new school. If you're having this much trouble and you have not even started, what is the support going to be like if you have trouble in school. Honestly, most schools that care will take the time to go over the entire process with you. I can tell you that there are programs out there with great histories and are very reasonable. I know of one program that gives you credit for your RN and also allows you to transfer in other college credits from your AS-Nursing program.
A BSN should not take you 4 years or more. If it does you might want to look around a bit.
You can email me or respond here and I will answer your questions. It's what I do for a living.
I do believe I have finally read this entire thread--wow! Thanks for all the info. I went ahead & applied for UOW, after reading several different opinions. I really need an affordable program, without having to do chemistry--it was waived in my ADN program. Should I go ahead & apply elsewhere, too, in case I'm not accepted? If so, do you know of any that do not require chemistry? I've been out of school for 12 yrs, and the thought of taking it--ugh! Our local university has an affordable online program, but they require chemistry--which is only offered during day shift hours. Thanks!

Try Indiana Wesleyan (IWU) for their RN-BSN program, I believe they don't require chemistry or stats. Best of luck to you!

If you want to do it fast and all on line-Jeff university and Univ of Maryland. While distance wouldnt matter online i suggested those 2 because you listed PA as your hometown. There are many online programs-the choice is up to you. I wanted to complete my BSN as fast as i could so i am doing in 2 semesters. I was taking classes all along so i had all their requirements.
I found this post extremely helpful, or here I thought it was. I thought may be UOW would be a great choice, since I have to pay everything out of pocket, but I just read another post: "UWYO Online RN-BSN BEWARE" Sounds like they do not give you in black and white what was transferred in, and add on more classes in the end. Anybody else have this problem? I know every school someone will complain about or have a bad experience, but I want to make my RN to BSN online experience a good one that will not cost a fortune!
I can't remember how, but I found the tuition for TESC online. It is $352.00/credit for undergraduate and I think $400/credit for graduate. There is an application fee and credentialing fee- I think these are 40.00 and 300.00 respectively. TESC awarded me credits on 90% of my transferable credits. The only credits not transferable were Phys Ed and some extra psych courses I had taken.
Anybody ever go to Fort Hays State University? Just curious on likes/dislikes......seems very cheap....too good to be true? Thanks!
Ft hays isn't to good to be true. I was going there bricks and mortar as well as online before I moved to GA. Cheap school, you get out of if what you put into it. No extra hoops to junp through.

I read online that University of Wyoming lists under Required Elective\Graduation Courses, US and Wyoming Constitution. Do you know if you have to take it or can you choose another course. It is not that I have any thing against it but I was hoping to transfer as many credits as possible from other colleges.
