RN to BSN online

Published

In preparation for getting a BSN, I am trying to gather information regarding online BSN programs. if you have links to what you feel is an affordable, online, no residency requirement program, please post 'em here.

One program that I came across was at Thomas Edison State College. does anyone have any information regarding their program? I was hoping to find someone that has first hand (or second hand ? ) experience with the TESC RN to BSN program as it seems to be an affordable option, which, of course, is always a bonus. from reading the catalog on their site it appears that you can use some of the EC exams to satisfy the upper-level nursing courses.

The TESC program looks pretty decent but I am looking for some feedback to any online rn to BSN program. if anyone has links to what they feel is an affordable online rn/bsn program please post the link here.

I am soooooo frustrated with the UOW. I paid my 40.00 fee for them to evaluate my transcript and give me answers, but have gotten nothing but a hard time. No one will tell me anything. I was told until I get admitted they cannot tell me anything, but that is not what the website says about the 40.00. It is crazy and disjointed at the UOW. Admissions doesn't know what's going on in nursing. Nursing doesn't know what it going on over here. When I did finally get one person to answer 1 question her answer was wrong. My transcript is finally at the school and has been looked at and the nursing school still wont' talk to me until I "get my letter of admittance." Whatever!!!!!! I need to sign up for classes NOW n my town for some prereqs, not on their terms and I need to know what to take. They could tell me if they wanted to.

The UOW needs to get more faculty who are willing to help and that are there to serve the student's needs, not there own. I will not recommend this school if you don't have to go for the $ or other reasons.

If the way the have handled me thus far is any indication of the way their classes are going to be then there is going to be nothing but Hell.:devil:

Have you heard anything yet? I have read through this thread and was following up with UOW until I got to your post...does not sound good at all...

i just finished the rn-bsn program at texas tech.2 semesters if full time.15 hrs each wich overlap.the only visit you make to the campus is after acceptance before the program starts.this is a 2 day event for orientation.the next time is only if you want to attend graduation.as for the clinicals, you get a preceptor who is baccalaurette prepared or higher, and then act as a guide.was a good program.i really enjoyed it.

if you have any questions pm me.

I am looking at Thomas Edison, Liberty, and Florida Hospital College for my online RN to BSN program.

Has anyone been told that their science courses are to old? I took my sciences in the 70's.

And does anyone know what the practicum/clinicals are like? I was told by Liberty that the only clinical was a health assessment observed by a BSN or higher but this was not from the nursing department.

Also do you need to have all your general education classes completed before applying to the programs? I was told by one of the schools that I should have already had chemistry with a lab but my LPN and Associates programs did not reguire it at the time?

Pick a school with a good reputation and a history of providing quality education that offers the online options that you need rather than a school that other people might question because they never heard of it and are not 100% sure it is a "diploma mill."

... In today's environment, there are plenty of well-known, reputable options to choose from.

I have to say I assumed Excelsior would be regarded as a "diploma mill," and planned to do Stony Brook's RN-to-BSN program, but when I had a meeting at a prestigious medical college to discuss admission to their master's program, they *suggested* Excelsior because it's local (NY), fast and is generous regarding accepting credits.

:idea:Thanks for the info. I hadn't thought about the "diploma mill" aspect. I had thought about Excelsior in the past but one of my friends who came up from Virginia for the clinical, failed it. I was concerned about the amount of money it would cost if I failed it and had to retake it. I also knew someone else that passed it but they suggested a review course for it first. Do you or anyone know about review courses for the clinical portion?

Help. I live in NJ and I'm trying to find the lease expensive online RN-BSN PROGRAM. So far it's between Govenor university and Thomas Edison. Could anyone suggest any other online schools.:banghead:

I got my degree through the University of Jacksonville, in Florida. The program was easy to use and the professors were easy to get in touch with if you had questions or problems. I don't know what the cost is now but about 3 to 4 years ago it was 1300 for a 3 credit class and that included the books. NAU of Arizona is working on a online program but I don't think that it is set up yet. I am from a town that only has a community college so online was a good option. Plus I didn't have to make arrangements to change my schuedle at work to attend classes.

I am in the online program with the University of Wyoming, only about 5 classes away from graduation with my BSN. There are no residency requirements. The cost is $134 per credit hour (it breaks down to $90 per credit and $34 per hr. "delivery" fee). Overall, I find the cost and program to be good, and I have been in the program for several semesters. All of their nursing courses are online but you may have to go outside the program for classes like art or math if you need them. I started wiht U of WY. while living in Wyoming, and continued when I moved back to Florida. I did check out other programs but this was by far the most reasonably priced. Best wishes in your pursuit!

dotidot-I graduated with my Associates' degree from Florida Hospital College of Health Sciences, located in Orlando, in 2003. I liked the school and the instructors. I have not participated in their online program, but can recommend the college from the standpoint of having been an on-campus student. It is expensive though. Isn't it around $300 per hour now? Due to the cost, I did not persue their online program, I am in the University of Wyoming program. See my other post here regarding that. Best wishes!
