How do I get started in Case Management?
Although I am an ADN working towards my BSN, most starting positions in case management want a BSN and at least 3 to 5 years clinical experience. If you can not find a case management position now, look for other positions that work with case management, such as quality, core measures, auditor, or some hospitals still use separate discharge planners and utilization reviewers. Some posts in other forums also suggest trying case management for an insurance company first. Although the information is probably good, I would not waste my time with an expensive case management course, since you still have to have the 1 to 2 years case management experience to sit for the CCM exam. (Plus, I passed it by relying on what I learned working case management & studying).

RN to BSN online
After much research & dealing with different schools, including registering & seeing which classes they wanted repeated or added, I've decided to go with Oklahoma Wesleyan's new online program. It's more than I wanted to spend, but the cheaper schools all wanted me to repeat my sciences or add on a bunch more classes. I want to start my program now! Anyway, NO chemistry or stats required. Very easy to work with. My friend started their program in October, & is very pleased with the program.

UWYO Online RN-BSN BEWARE
Decided to go with Oklahoma Wesleyan's new online program. They were easy to work with & accepted all previous course work. Only have to take one extra class--pathophysiology. NO chemistry or stats. UOW was requiring course syllabus on 2 of my sciences to review--& these were 10yrs old, so the school I went to was having a tough time finding such to send to them. Matter of fact, my old school said that this was a very unusual request. Who knows??? Also, still haven't heard from UOW what classes they were or were not accepting. Decided at that point to look further elsewhere.

NLNAC vs. CCNE Accreditation
If it doesn't matter, than why does some universities insist on it for admission to their BSN programs? From the website for UAFS (University of Arkansas Fort Smith), "Submit an official transcript showing successful completion of an NLNAC accredited associate degree or diploma nursing program to the UA Fort Smith Records Office". I am trying to decide between their online program or some others that are only CCNE accredited.

I read the other post, & then several others about UofW. I just received my acceptance letter from the school, & am waiting on my transcript eval. This seemed the better fit for me now. Ugh?!!! Anyone else with this experience?

I hate to hear that. I have started enrollment process there. It seems to be the best fit for me now. Will have to check further.

Interviewing for CQI/CM Position - Have ???s
I have found that, after awhile, you learn to recognize when a pt is meeting the criteria. I don't carry my Interqual around chart to chart like when I first started. If I question it, then I will refer to the book. The criteria does change some, too, from year to year.

starting in cm
Good luck to you!!! Case management is still very new here--not very many openings, lack of experienced CM's in area, & such. Plus, they don't want to pay what other areas are paying, so there's no reason for the experienced to come our way. We've kind of had to learn as we go. What I wonder, is it better to shoot for CCM or for my BSN in this field? Thanks!

RN to BSN online
I do believe I have finally read this entire thread--wow! Thanks for all the info. I went ahead & applied for UOW, after reading several different opinions. I really need an affordable program, without having to do chemistry--it was waived in my ADN program. Should I go ahead & apply elsewhere, too, in case I'm not accepted? If so, do you know of any that do not require chemistry? I've been out of school for 12 yrs, and the thought of taking it--ugh! Our local university has an affordable online program, but they require chemistry--which is only offered during day shift hours. Thanks!
