what do you regret?

Anything that you regret in nursing school? Something that you did not do or something that you did do? Words of advice?

i just finished my first round of clinicals and i would say i regret being so tense and nervous!! i wasnt passing meds or doing anything serious, so its not like i was going to hurt my patient taking her vital signs that i had practiced hundreds of times! i need to gain more confidence in my abilities!! thatll only come w/ time though :)

I do not have any regrets from nursing school. It was a wonderful experience and I would do it again in a minutes notice. Mistakes you learn from and all the experience is something to gain to your knowledge base.

ita- learn from the mistakes- and nursing school is what you make it-! I don't regret learning "more than you need to", especially when it comes to pathophys, pharm and clinical site policy/procedure- as well as honesty. I do regret not being a CNA/Tech- it would have made things smoother task wise and help in finding a job!

It's easy to take things personally from instructors.. DON'T! MOST of them are there to help you succeed.

Make time for family, you will never regret it.

Learn to say "no" and don't over-commit.

I regret being so freaked out about the 'nursing school thing' I've found that nursing school was a cake walk compared to being an RN.

best to you- relax and enjoy. It's no so bad. Truly.

I try not to have any regrets in life. If their was anything I would change I would put more effort into my studying and stuff. I can make it a goal for next semester. I still have done decent with my grades with no effort but I know if I put forth more of an effort I could have had all A's. Growing up I was always told about how smart I was if only I applied myself. Which I laugh at now because I tell my teenage son the same thing.

I can see though that it is true. I have a hard time having confidence in myself when it comes to intelligence, I always feel so dumb and like I am the dumbest one of my group of friends, I feel awkward when a teacher or fellow student tells me I am smart.

So anyway, if I could change something I would have more confidence in my abilities and apply myself more.

I regret not entering sooner lol..

Dont be afraid to ask questions.

Do not be intimated by the instructor.

Do not be intimated by the patient.

BE CONFIDENT even when you are so scared you think you peed yourself

Everyone gives such good advice :D

ROFLMAO @ CandyGyrl...there have been many times I have thought I would pee myself. And yes, you still have to act like you have a clue with the patient. :smokin:

OK, so now to actually contribute something...

I regret being so hard on myself. Had I known that everyone felt stupid but was reluctant to say so, I might've cut myself some slack.

Go into nursing school preparing to feel stupid, because believe me, at some point, you will. You will feel stupid because you are learning. And it's hard to learn without making mistakes. Give yourself permission to grow, to ask, and to be stretched. Give yourself permission to be frustrated at yourself, then to learn from your experiences. And if all else fails, give yourself permission to cry and to laugh. If you can't laugh at yourself you're in the wrong line of work! :specs:

I am bless to be accepted into the most competitive nursing program in my state. I am a very cautious person. I tend to read things over and over to ensure that i understand. I regret the mistakes I done in high school and stagnation after. I am only 22 yrs old but I wish I could have started college sooner. However, I am grateful to be so bless and fortunate to be an "A" student. I think my time off allowed me to put my life in prospective. So, I am going to keep moving forward until I see my name on a hospital schedule as Er Nurse Kerry and hopefully Kerry, RN, MSN,DNP.
