Random Thoughts about School Nursing not juicy enough for their own topic start here!
My mantra lately: "Wash your HANDS, go back to CLASS and cover your COUGH!"
I hate the term "going viral". The only thing that should be going viral are, well, viruses.
I like the term! It was invented to describe a very recent phenomenon and implies something more than "it's a popular topic".
I was just discussing recently with my sisters about how much technology has changed how we communicate, get our news, everything, really. And all in just the last couple decades!
I'm going to start a spin off in General Nursing about it, I think! Thanks for bringing it up!
Of course 5 students will show up at the same time needing something at the exact moment I'm dealing with an actual urgent situation.I thought only nice people become teachers. (Of course, I also thought the same about nurses ... boy was that a rude awakening!)
Nurses are nice. We have to triage, though, and that can get bossy.
Teachers, well, umm...it depends on the person, yes?
(They're nice when they want a tampon!)
Today I had three asthma attacks, a nosebleed so bad I had to send out for cauterization, and a vomiter ALL AT THE SAME TIME. While I'm dealing with all them, I had kids coming in for ice, abrasions, headaches, stomach aches. I made them all wait in the main office until I had things under control in the clinic. Today was a if you're not guzzling blood, having trouble breathing or puking, you'll have to wait in the main office until I come get you kind of day. SIGH.

Ugh! Glad you're through it and it's over. Days like that are exhausting!

Yikes!!
I had a kid pass out the other day and while I was assessing him, I had kids coming in with nausea, s/a, and it sucks that I'm worried the whole time about how I'm going to get an angry phone call if I tell that kid to come back because the parent will say that their angel should not be deprioritized.

I think that night nurse needs to call all the parents who sent their sick kids to school today (and you know darn well the parent knew the kid was iffy…). Yup, call and wake em up in the middle of the night….. just because. He he he.
