Random Thoughts: School Nurses

Published

Random Thoughts about School Nursing not juicy enough for their own topic start here!

My mantra lately: "Wash your HANDS, go back to CLASS and cover your COUGH!"

Uh oh, I'm home sick. I don't call out sick too often. First time for this job. I feel guilty.

Don't feel guilty!! You can't take care of anyone until you take care of yourself first!! Get better!!

I know the feeling. I HATE calling off. I stay pretty healthy, but I have had to take days off for my kids being sick and I feel SOOO guilty, even though I KNOW that I have those days for if I'm sick.

I kind of attribute it to never having paid sick days until I became a nurse. Before my nursing days I worked as a hairdresser and a waitress, so if I wasn't there- I wasn't making money. So getting sick would literally cost me a day's pay. (side note- it's not unusual for hairdresser or waitresses to go to work sick to avoid losing money. Not very sanitary, but true)

Oh my GOODNESS.

It is like Grand Central Station here today.

Is there a full moon?

SAME HERE.

Today's random thought: I still don't have xray vision. I can't tell if that bone is broken. I can't see through your pants to look at a bruise on your shin. I can't see through the wall to know that you have been waiting quietly in the hallway instead of walking through my open door!

I have had..

1) Hi I have a headache and we are leaving for vacation tomorrow (yes we have school) and I don't want this headache anymore

2) My daughter has a concussion and can only stay in school three hrs the next three days, but wont be in at all next week cause we are leaving for vacation on Friday...

mmmm. good to be the queen.

Hahahahahahaha! Awesome.

I have a headache too and I'm not going on vacation. I must be a lonely peon. Sad day for the commoners.

Girl breaks cell phone. I have to tweeze glass out her hand. Twice. Then she sticks broken cell phone in her boot. I have to tweeze glass out of her foot. THEN she drops it again, her BFF steps on glass in gym locker room and I cannot see where glass is. BFF is crying. Soak foot, still cannot see glass. BFF cannot weight bear. Mom called, BFF using crutches until doctor appointment, Cell Phone Girl awaiting next victim.

*facepalm*

^This is why I am glad my school does not allow cell phones during class. If they are seen, they can be taken for the day. First time I saw that girl, I wouldn't see her again because her phone would held by our Dean of students for the day.

Save that, can you wrap it in clear tape? ;)

I did, but she peeled it off.

They are so lax here about cell phones. That's why half the kids text their moms to come running to pick them up and don't even come down to see me. I have complained several times since I have been here to no avail.

What grade level are you at? My school does not allow them (5th and 6th grade) but I know the high school my sister works at allows cell phone use during passing periods.

High School 7-12
