Random Thoughts: School Nurses

Published

Random Thoughts about School Nursing not juicy enough for their own topic start here!

My mantra lately: "Wash your HANDS, go back to CLASS and cover your COUGH!"

Whenever I see someone here from last year I get all geekily happy!

Who is missing, still?

I'm back!! I left my summer work (at a camp for adults and children with developmental disabilities) Sunday night and started with in-services for school Monday morning. Bleh!! My office is in shambles (my doing). It's gray and rainy. But on the plus side- the upperclassmen are giving tours to the incoming freshman and I just heard one of them say "This is the nurse's office. She's super cool and friendly and really easy to talk to, so this is her office." Hear that guys?? I am super cool AND friendly.

I am back. One of the new teachers who heard I was a school nurse said that I must be the kids' favorite person. I was like, "not quite. I'm not really a nice nurse, and I don't have fancy bandaids".

Another new teachers was scared to come to my office because I may give him a shot. I love it when adults are scared of me because I look soooo young.

Never assume a child has a mom. :(

Sweet, smiling five year old.

Nurse, "I'm going to call your mommy to come pick you up"!"

Five year old no longer smiling, tears begin to roll, "I just want my mommy"

Nurse, "It's okay, I'm calling now"

Child, "I don't live with my mommy anymore."

Heart, broken.

I'm baaaaaaaaaaack!

OK I'll play 179 days. Some of our teachers have already started their countdown!
