I have been working m/s for almost 2 weeks and have noticed that so many of the nurses I work with wear either the Micheal Kors watches or coach watches. You wonder how I get close enough to notice this, but if you know the watches they are unmistakeable. I also notice that most of them wear their ginormous wedding rocks and since I am a newbie fresh out of nursing school, of course I leave my rock at home, but I was just wondering and polling you random nurses if you would risk wearing a very expensive timepiece or your wedding rings to work all day? Being so new, to me it screams INFECTION!!! lol. I wear my little old nursing school watch and feel so plain next to all the bling on the floor....
It's not the price of the watch that is an issue for me. It's the fact that it's a wristwatch. For infection control reasons, I have been wearing a pin-on fob watch as long as I've been in nursing, including student days (it's NHS approved; I live in the States but it's a danged-fine watch!).
I don't wear my wedding rings either. NO rings, NO wristwatch. I have no trouble remembering I'm married, and if I look down at my chest I'll see the time easily if I need a second-hand, or the wall clock if I don't.
Never did like the idea that bacteria so easily take root in watch bands, in the crevices of the timepiece itself, and let's not even GO there with diamonds!
Are you married? Is your wedding ring with a diamond or a CZ? Because a CZ looks just like a diamond.Just making a point. It's okay to like a good quality watch that will keep its color and its time for more than 2 years, and is pretty to look at. Some people purchase watches as jewelry, in addition to keeping time.
Agreed. I just don't understand why someone would even care about what kind of watch/ring/jewelry a co-worker wears. I was always too bust worrying about myself to take inventory of who was wearing what.
FWIW, my watch usually cost ~ $200.00. I wore a stainless steel Swiss Army watch. I loved that watch.
I hate wearing watches, so I only wear one at work. I can't imagine spending that kind of money on a watch, but I'm not really into jewelry. That's just me. How other people choose to spend their money and use their possessions is their business. They'd probably think I was crazy for buying a $50 skein of high end lace weight yarn, so I'm not going to judge. :)
Not that I could afford such a watch ($300 is a lot for me) i wouldnt wear it anyway. With what I do in a day...*shudder*...my $14.99 glow in the dark Walmart watch does me just fine. also I don't wear my engagement ring to work because the diamonds poke out and would probably scratch someone! I wear my wedding band usually.

Eh, I get wicked bored of wearing scrubs all day. So I need to bling it up a bit.
More expensive watches seem to last longer. However, mine is a cheapie that is huge and rubber.
The ring thing.....if I had a huge rock, I would be scared of the wear and tear taking gloves on and off.
But I got a really nice coach bag.....
