We have been invited to go visit the angry pharmacist and tell him what we think about MA's calling themselves nurses. Read the post- it's a hoot.

I posted as well.

Pretty funny!!!:lol2:

While I can understand the need for MA's in physician's offices due to costs, I don't understand the schools and their outrageous claims. Mostly, I blame the school's advertising for making MA students and the general public think that Nursing is on the same level. I believe these schools are taking advantage of these people-charging high prices for basic skills. *I was certified in these same skills while in nursing school while working as tech in ER for free.

I think that perhaps nurses should be sponsoring more public service announcements showcasing our profession, and just what makes it so special. We are allowing ourselves to be lumped in with the rest!

This is nothing new. I remember being an LPN student back in the Dark Ages when the tech school also had a MA program.

The students told us "we learn to do everything you do except we don't have to empty bedpans!!"

I've been working with a physician who has a MA. I'm very careful to call her "his assistant" and not "his nurse."

I am kind of saddened we were encouraged to go to a site outside allnurses.com to bash a 17-year-old misguided person and some of the language used by nurses there, downright embarassing and disgusting. I sure hope no member of allnurses.com is responsible for the more flaming and rude posts there. I think the point could definately come across in a nicer way----you know, bees with honey thing and all.......

When I first started getting on this board as a pre-nursing student I though people were mean for bashing MAs on here. Now I understand. I am in my second year of a BSN program. Last semester I spent the first three days of my spring break with no appetite followed by three days of diarrhea because of the stress I was under. I never even came close to feeling that way when I went through MA school or worked as a CMA...I am working my tail off and using every stitch of my intellect and wits about me. When I graduate and take the board I will proudly call myself an RN; and only then. But that still is not going to stop me from being nice to MA's; not just because I use to be one. And even though I will work a lot harder as an RN than I did as an MA I did work hard and I was proud of my title and corrected people when they called me a nurse. I understand why people get angry when some one that is not a nurse (like an MA), but that does not mean you can not correct them politely. There was one post on that site from a male nurse taking about eating "poop" but the vulgar version, "and then I will make you poop it out and eat it again..." yea; thats a nurse I want people to think of when I say I am a nurse in the future....(thats sarcasm)

THAT'S the post i was mainly referring to.

could you believe that guy????

and while i certainly understand everyone's angst, there are ways of communicating that doesn't have to include vulgarity.

i thought tazzi's post was one of the best.

i could see the misinformed (17yo!) poster with eyes popping out of head, after reading tazz's post.

anyway, i agree heartsopen, that guy was a freak.
