When people at allnurses get upset with others, and they can't think of anything else to say, they say "I would never want you as my nurse! ".
Can't we just all get along?

Any online forum is gonna have people who don't agree with each other and It's not gonna change but to insult someone's entire career is pretty uncalled for.. Although I probably should say right now I did call someone low class, for calling another member low class lol. And I'm one of those nurses who is "too nice" according to most. I guess that says a lot lol. At the end of the day we're all on here for a reason.. To seek out people we can relate to or emulate or mentor. Well,. At least that's why I am here.
Thanks to all the nurses on allnurses. You're all great nurses

Some people post with the intention of receiving replies that coincide with exactly what they want to hear. When that doesn't happen, a few original posters have become defensive and dropped the "I wouldn't want you as my nurse" bomb.
I do not take the defensiveness personally. I am simply grateful that my thought processes have evolved in the context that I am willing to be exposed to ideas from those who do not think like me. An online forum is not the hill I wish to die upon.
On the other hand, some are seeking 'yes'-people, PollyAnna cheerleaders, and head-bobbers to tell them only what they want to hear and nothing more.

Very true.. I like to encourage people all though I give advice that they may not want to hear. It's all in how one delivers the advice. People are more likely to listen when one is polite yet constructive.. Not rude, and not all "yes" about everything. There's that line. And it's easy to cross that line when one cannot hear a tone of voice, but only read words.

Haha @ Pollyanna cheerleaders. Right, I believe many of us gave some honest opinions recently bout someone seeking a career change and the thread was deleted when she didn't get the answers she wanted.
I would want legitimate opinions in her shoes, but I guess the imaginary bubble world of "respected hospital nurses" has snowflakes

I can point to a thread where a highly polarised subject is being discussed - and vented about - with an admirable dearth of snark and personal attacks. So I know it's possible.
People come onsite for a whole variety of reasons - some of them quite exploitive. Some have emotional issues better dealt with in therapy. Some truly enjoy blowing up threads and making the conversation all about themselves. Some are just plain wrong-headed and lash out when their personal stereotypes are contradicted.
I make frequent use of the ignore feature. When someone shows me who they are, I believe them.

I haven't been here long but did see a thread where someone was basically talking about how he was putting one over on his employer, a lying-cheating kind of thing, and people were calling him or her on it. And one person who flat out said I think you are scamming and it's unethical was immediately told she (he?) must be a terrible nurse, mean to patients, and so on. Really made no sense! You can tell what kind of nursing care someone gives because they don't agree that it's okay to cheat yourself into a better job? Stupid really.

Demonstrates a distinctive lack of ability and creativity in conversational and debating skills to me. It's much harder to keep focused on the issue when personal attacks come so easily. Just because you disagree with me, does not at say anything to me that you lack character or skill, unless something you say really tells me so.

I don't want any of you as my nurses... BECAUSE I DON'T WANT TO BE IN THE FLIPPING HOSPITAL. (true story)

OH and the old "I would never want you as my nurse" is the default answer of such people. I actually smile when I see that old chestnut.
