PVT IS DEAD! Don't try the "new" trick

Published

The PVT was never meant to happen. It was not some trick invented to give us results before the 48 hour quick results were ready, it was a computer glitch that allowed us the peace of mind of finding out early if we most likely passed. Therefore it is no surprise that PV found a way to fix it. Those of us who are already licensed got lucky. New testers are not likely to have that sort of luck.

There is a new trick circulating that basically says you can still get the good popup if you try to pay. There is a problem with this, if you put in your credit card information and it allows you to pay, there is NO REFUND if you actually passed. The PVT was never 100% accurate, and false fails were more prominent than false passes. So if you put in your CC and it takes it, there is around a 5% chance that you passed and you just paid 200$ for an inaccurate trick.

Those in states that allow quick results will have to wait 48 hours. It is 48 terrible mind numbing frightening hours, but it's worth it not to pay for a new registration. Those in states not participating in quick results, you should call your BON after 48 hours and try to re-register on the phone. They should stop you if you passed.

The trick was a sanity saver for thousands, and it is sad to see it go, but it was inevitable that it was going to eventually get fixed.

UPDATE

As of October 2016, many people are still reporting that the PVT TRICK still works.

@McKennaRN

Doesn't it always say "results not available" I took mine on the 30th and it hasn't changed to delivery successful. Do you know when those switch?

Hello. Guessing I'm the only one so far on this thread that took the exam and tried the trick by hitting submit and ended up with a charge for $200. I will get the quick result tomorrow but after reading everyone's posts, I'm pretty sure that I failed.

I payed the 7.95 for my unofficial results this morning. I PASSED. I assume the PVT isnt always accurate. Im curious to know if pearson will actually accept the credit card payment if someone has passed.

The PVT never was 100% accurate right away. This is because your exams are scored twice. The 2nd time is the definitive scoring and probably takes place about 24 hours after you take the exam. Unfortunately they won't tell you when that's happened, and the PVT will be 100% accurate after that. The fact that some people have had their PVT results flip from one status to another indicates that the 2nd scoring changed the test results from pass to fail. About the only time I'd really trust it would be if it shut off at the minimum.

I'm hoping that you are right. I took the exam on Aug 30 at 12 pm and tried the PVT at 6 pm. It took me 3 hrs and the test stopped at 103 Q. Thank you for giving me some hope. I'll post result tomorrow.

Please post what happens. I hope you pass!!! I read only one post where a girl was charged trying the new PVT but she didn't say if she passed or failed. I assume she lives in one of the states that doesn't participate in quick results. If you passed, I'll be so happy for you but also a bit sad that you lost money and the pvt doesn't work like we all think it does. Anyway, keep us posted! I hope that if you do pass that maybe the people at pearson will be kind to refund your money. If you failed that's okay, just try again. Lots of people fail especially their first time. There's people who have failed 7 times and are still trying - good for them! If you need to re-take the test, I highly recommend Hurst review. It's expensive but well worth it. I swear, I learned more from that review than I did in nursing school. I was out of school for 6 years, took the hurst review and bought the hurst review book off of amazon, and I couldn't have passed without it! Now my next hurdle, is someone hiring me with no clinical experience.

I posted something snarky originally, realized I was tired, and retracted.

OP, please read through any TWO of the roughly 27,102 threads on this topic, and you'll feel better :)

The PVT is no longer; there are some other possible "tricks" in store, but as always the most reliable source of "did you pass' is your own State BON.

Good luck!

@j_lynn34 for me it always said results not available and it never switched to delivery successful, it just told me I was able to purchase the quick results, I am in MA where they offer the quick results for $8. I was reading other posts where it would change to delivery successful right after they finished the exam, I was posting in case other people never saw the change in status. Mine became available to purchase exactly 48 hours after I completed the exam. Good luck!!

Congrats! The same thing happened to me but I forgot that the pvt no longer works and was crying my eyes out thinking that I failed until today when I got my quick results lol.

Wishing you the best!

SOME PEOPLE WHO PASSED HAVE HAD THEIR CREDIT CARDS SUBMIT WITH THE 200.00 NON-REFUNDABLE CHARGE.

The trick does not work.

Glutton,

You are not correct, knowingly placing an order with a credit card that you are aware doesn't have funds, IS immoral. PV got rid of the "trick" by paying an IT firm to fix the issue. Do you honestly think that they will not monitor? They will, they will record the entries that bounce back for lack of funds.

PV did not get tid of the trick because they want our money, they got rid of it because it was inaccurate. The new trick has been tried maybe a couple of hundred people tried it since Sunday morning, and many of them haven't gotten official word yet if they passed, so no one even knows how accurate this thing is. In fact, I have not read one post where it let someone pay so perhaps the former good popup is for everyone now. No one knows yet, and it's a bit silly to take a chance on being charged the $200 if it does let you pay.

PV should raise the price to $208 and automatically give everyone the unofficial quick results right after taking the test, it sure would be better than this!

Scared,

The level of immorality regarding what the poster did is purely subjective. To each his or her own. Further, Pearson will NOT penalize a customer who's card declines, as it CANNOT be known whether the mistake was intentional. The customer is pre-paying for a service that they WILL NOT receive until after the availability of funds has been verified-period. This is not a difficult concept to understand, so I am not sure why you are choosing to initiate a debate. I am also not sure why you are addressing the validity of Pearson's move to correct the "trick" in your response to my post. My post was geared towards alleviating some anxiety caused by your implying that a poster broke the law and needed to be nervous about the fact that his or her card declined. Right or wrong, the last thing a person needs when awaiting NCLEX results is to be scolded about a decision that was clearly made on impulse, especially when there was absolutely no harm done to anyone in any way.

Glutton,

I never said arrested, I said illegal. And IT IS!

I also said that nurses are supposed to operate on ETHICS, and it is unethical!

Most importantly, no one knows whether PV monitors that stuff, but if any of them are reading these posts, they probably will if they aren't already.

So really? You think new grads should compromise their integrity, take a chance of getting flagged, and still be no wiser because NO ONE KNOWS IF IT WORKS? That makes some sort of sense to you? Giving that sort of advise is less cruel than telling them the truth?

Awesome.

Hello everyone! I know for the longest time the rumor of the Pearson view log in trick has worked. If you try to re-register and you get the "good pop up" you probably passed and if it went to the credit card page you probably failed! Well rest assured fellow nclex takers this is NOT TRUE anymore!!!!!! I myself took the nclex

this past week 8/29/14 and got 246 questions. Like I'm sure everyone else I thought I failed of course. Might I mention this was my second attempt at the nclex. The first time I didn't check the "trick" because l was just to scared and found out later. This time i got the courage up to try the trick because all my nurse friends swear it worked. Log on, submit my info, and boom goes to credit card page. I was thinking great failed it again! I decided to do some research and actually found out that Pearson view actually changed their website as of 8/24/14 and now no matter if you passed or failed it takes you to the credit card page. I didn't know if i believed it or not so I decided not to cry until I got my 48 hour quick results. I checked the next day and I PASSED!!! Don't do trick anymore or let it get you discouraged like I did. I know there are lots of other nclex takers out there wondering same thing. Good luck future RNs!!!!!
