The PVT was never meant to happen. It was not some trick invented to give us results before the 48 hour quick results were ready, it was a computer glitch that allowed us the peace of mind of finding out early if we most likely passed. Therefore it is no surprise that PV found a way to fix it. Those of us who are already licensed got lucky. New testers are not likely to have that sort of luck.
There is a new trick circulating that basically says you can still get the good popup if you try to pay. There is a problem with this, if you put in your credit card information and it allows you to pay, there is NO REFUND if you actually passed. The PVT was never 100% accurate, and false fails were more prominent than false passes. So if you put in your CC and it takes it, there is around a 5% chance that you passed and you just paid 200$ for an inaccurate trick.
Those in states that allow quick results will have to wait 48 hours. It is 48 terrible mind numbing frightening hours, but it's worth it not to pay for a new registration. Those in states not participating in quick results, you should call your BON after 48 hours and try to re-register on the phone. They should stop you if you passed.
The trick was a sanity saver for thousands, and it is sad to see it go, but it was inevitable that it was going to eventually get fixed.

UPDATE
As of October 2016, many people are still reporting that the PVT TRICK still works.
MissMoo25,
Is this your second time taking the NCLEX?
What did you use to study?
It's crazy because my program had us take the ATI Comprehensive and you had to get within the 95th percentile to graduate and I got a 96% pass rate based on the ATI that I would pass the NCLEX. I am just in shock with myself… It's really disappointing. Can't blame anyone but myself I guess.
Yes it is and I used Kaplan Focused Reviews and Saunders 5th Edition CD program and read the entire Saunders 6th edition book in 3 weeks. I have always done well and graduated with honors but it's a test. I got anxious and freaked myself out. Now I'm just hoping I managed to control my anxiety level enough to pass.
We are in an era of instant gratification. We are sick with anxiety because we are not used to waiting for anything. I am too checking and rechecking... I feel sick because my test result is the only thing on my mind. When taking a computerized test I feel like my anxiety worsens because computer = instant gratification. I took 1 scantron test during my nursing school and didn't feel this sick about it. I feel like we should go back to paper tests. I don't understand how they can figure out if I'm going to be a competent nurse in 75-85 questions.
I wish you guys could go back to paper tests, too.
Not because it's necessarily better or more accurate, but because you miss out on all the fanfair. It's a last hurrah for all your classmates at the same time. While it was two full days of testing (around 14-16 hours altogether) it was also fun.
Now I picture the poor students leaving these testing sites all by themselves, all forlorn and with none of the pomp and circumstance. Seems to me it would be a bit anticlimactic.
Guttercat,
It is difficult to be there all alone without any classmates to participate in that "last hurrah", but I think most of us are grateful we didn't have to do the paper tests.
All of my classmates are linked on facebook and it was such a fantastic feeling each time one posted "I passed". Our class started taking the test at the end of May, most of us took it in June or July (some still haven't) and while we were still studying, seeing the others pass really gave us (a false sense) of hope.
Having to wait 6-8 weeks for results would have been heartbreaking for most of us. Only being offered two test dates a year would have meant sure bankruptcy for most of us! I think most new nurses would agree that the computerized method is better...missing out on that last hurrah is sad, but not as sad as missing that paycheck while waiting months for results.
On other forums I found that people were entering the cc, not getting a popup, being charged, and the next day finding from their BON that they actually had passed. $200 GONE! Looks like the "newest trick" is even less accurate than the last one. It just wasn't worth it to me.
I did decide the $8 early results were worth it... And I PASSED!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Best $8 I ever spent!
It's still alive, just have to enter cc info and submit. If you passed you'll receive "Our records indicate that you have recently scheduled this exam. Another registration cannot be made at this time", if you failed well, you just paid $200 but you have to anyway.
A lot of people are assuming this is the case, but there is no proof that this new trick works.
EVERYONE who has reported under this new so-called 'trick' has gotten the same screen and we haven't heard from a single poster that had their card charged (on this forum anyway). Not one. Considering the number of students here who have tried it, I would like to know how many actually failed the test, but still got the same screen.
Until that time, this 'trick' is debunked. The only accurate result is the result given by your BON.

Abaynestone, there are so many rumors. The number of questions, the number of sata, whether your last question was sata, whether you answered the last question right or wrong-none of that is an indication of pass or fail. If you got the entire 265, then you will pass if you didn't drop below passing level in the last 60 questions. That doesn't mean you can't miss any of them, just that you have to stay above the passing line.
Sadly, there really is not a way to second guess results, keep checking your state BON and if nothing is there in 48 hours, do the quick results.
