Get Me Out of Here by Rachel Reiland. Life with borderline personality disorder, straight from someone diagnosed with it. It's very enlightening and explains a lot of the why and how--at least from a patient's perspective.

The Noonday Demon: An Atlas of Depression by Andrew Solomon -- one of my absolute favourite books ever. It's part memoir, with lots of research, philosophy and other fascinating bits. He's an amazing writer, and this is one of those books that you can pick up and read a bit and always get something new out of. I keep two or three copies in my house at all times, because I'm constantly giving them away to friends, co-workers, family, etc.

I liked Manic, by Terri Cheney. She was a highly successful attorney with Hollywood connections whose bipolar disorder completely took over her life. Her harrowing portrayal of mania is at once frightening and educational.

Psychiatric Times is free. It's a nice read although not geared directly to nursing service.
