Proud moment today!

So I have a student in the special ed program with diabetes. He got diagnosed his freshman year and he is now a senior.

He just gave himself his first insulin shot ever!!!

We have been building up to this for 3 years now. Mom says he tries at home, but then wimps out. He has been prepping his insulin pen for me to inject him since school started. But I have still been giving the shot. We then had to wrap our head around giving the shot in the abdomen (where he can reach) instead of the arm. We were supposed to start the self injections next week, but he asked if he could do it today. Who am I to say no to that?!?!

He did it with no hesitation whatsoever. WOOT!!

We were so excited we gave hi fives and then we called mom on speaker phone.

I had a girl in the camp I worked at doing her growth hormone shot and did herself for the first time there and was so happy when she did. We gave her chocolate.

Very nice when kids learn self sufficiency. I remember when my son got to the point when he could run is own bg tests and do his shots.

With the vast needs for additional behavioral health nursing I have learned of the opportunities avaliable that there is a wealth of continued professional and personal growth nursing.I have found out that there continues to be the ability to be able to choose unique opportunities and outlets for nurses to have unique and challenging positions.
