President Biden to Sign Executive Order Creating the Presidential Commission on the Supreme Court of the United States

President Biden will today issue an executive order forming the Presidential Commission on the Supreme Court of the United States, comprised of a bipartisan group of experts on the Court and the Court reform debate. In addition to legal and other scholars, the Commissioners includes former federal judges and practitioners who have appeared before the Court, as well as advocates for the reform of democratic institutions and of the administration of justice. The expertise represented on the Commission includes constitutional law, history and political science.

The Commission’s purpose is to provide an analysis of the principal arguments in the contemporary public debate for and against Supreme Court reform, including an appraisal of the merits and legality of particular reform proposals. The topics it will examine include the genesis of the reform debate; the Court’s role in the Constitutional system; the length of service and turnover of justices on the Court; the membership and size of the Court; and the Court’s case selection, rules, and practices. ...

Anyone believe this would have happened if the  current make up of the court favored liberals?

You know what shredding the constitution looks like? It looks like lying about election results, inciting a violent attempt to overthrow the results of an election and then using that lie to restrict access to voting.

Sure, but you seemed to think that appointing a commission to study constitutional options is somehow a threat to our republic while ignoring the obvious threat of 010621 and the ongoing lies about election fraud. That level of confusion deserves to be corrected when it's the only comment you've made on the topic.

How is studying the Constitution proof of shredding the Constitution? 

The Constitution does not specify the number of justices, by the way. That is assigned to Congress.

Contrary to popular stupid beliefs of Trump supporters, liberals actually love the US Constitution and fight the stupidity of those who don't every single day.  In fact, contrary to the Trump Terrorist who invaded the Capitol on January 6, we support the US Constitution and read it!  In fact, the average Trump supporter talks about a document that they have yet to read or do not have a basic understanding of, which is why it is never a surprise that they listen to and agree with false narratives from garbage producing media outlets.   

Just so you know, it is perfectly legal to add Justices to the US Supreme Court.  It is not against the US Constitution.  Just like it was not against the US Constitution to add Justices to the Supreme Court who are not qualified to carry the water of a US Supreme Court Justice to be appointed to the US Supreme Court, as Trump has done very quickly, which was unprecedented prior to Trump's actions.  However, you and other Trump supporters had no problem with that.   

So you and other Trump supporters need not worry.  Biden will appoint qualified individuals after taking time to follow our traditions in adding US Supreme Court Justices. Unlike Trump's crap appointments, this will be a thoughtful process.

If, in that hypothetical, the congress belonged to republicans the court would be stacked already, no commission necessary to consider wisdom or constitutionality. The answer to your question seems straightforward.

Well, what do you think the blockade of Merrick Garland and the hurry over Justice Amy Barrett was all about? Certainly wasn’t about the rule of law. While I don’t necessarily agree with packing the court, the reality is that it’s always been basically a judicial arms race - not too different, ethically speaking, from gerrymandering. The Republican Party in particular has always been about getting as many “conservative” judges appointed to the federal bench as possible. At least a commission will slow things down a bit to allow for more consideration of possible unintended consequences.

When you have voting rights being suppressed, the ACA and Abortion rights on the agenda and people like Samuel Alito who has never once supported a liberal agenda or Clarence Thomas who was on the Koch payroll and Barrat who is so obviously biased and unqualified, still a member of a cult, dismissive and uncooperative during her hearings, the Supreme Court is a joke! 

It needs to be stacked in the liberal favor since the last three appointments were stolen!
