President Biden thread

Published

Wow.  No one has started such a thread yet?

After promising that most K-8 students would be in schools in the first 100 days,  apparently Joe is afraid to lead on this and has drastically scaled back that goal.

Instead, we're shooting for about half to go to school at least one day a week,  by the end of April.

They are spinning the story as a side-effect of generous unemployment benefits.  Just give me the facts.  The story up to that point was merely pointing out what the Labor Department said - fine.  We will probably never know why some people would rather live on unemployment benefits over working.  My general philosophy is "Pay them and they will comel"  I'd love to see that experiment.  But this is a website that caters to yellow journalism and readers that don't mind.

I'm well informed of the Texas voting bill.  More then you I suspect.  I don't object to it.  I'm trying to have a discussion about what others find so objectionable.

Then discuss instead of pretending that you don't know what the issue is.  Most of us wonder what happened in states like Texas that requires new laws which will serve to restrict access to voting. Did Texas have a problem with election or voter fraud that they are fixing..in your view?

It's an interesting and encouraging report.  They certainly threw some water on the Trumpublican mantra blaming unemployment for sluggish job growth.

The fed chairman testified before the Senate this morning...I listened to that with coffee and breakfast.

Are you going to relate this all to Biden or should this be a topical post?

Well, for one just to start, why are you so opposed to mail in voting.  I am speaking of solicited mail-ins which Texas wants to ban.  I counted those votes and it is very hard to cheat.  I found it incredibly safe.  What's so awful about drive-in voting?  Why is it inherently unsafe?  How about 24 hour voting?  Why would you be opposed to that?  And I am not a believer in everyone voting - way too many morons voting.  But none of the above make voting any safer and they do make it unfair and fair, safe voting is what it's all about....well, except for you.

What does this have to do with the price of milk?  People don't want to go back to work until they get paid more than they make from unemployment (which is all going to end)?  What kind of person who has a low-paying, unattractive job wouldn't stay home until they got more than minimum wage?  You want more employees - PAY THEM AND THEY WILL COME.  You can tell the restaurants that treat their staff well - they get to stay open for more meals. People in high paying jobs are also leaving because of toxic work cultures.

Do you know how to use Google to find out any facts?  Texas voting bills: What to know about the latest legislation | The Texas Tribune.  I cannot get this to link here so I hope you know how to Google.  They want to outlaw forms of voting that are perfectly safe.

What's in the new voting restriction legislation introduced in the Texas House and Senate

It's interesting that republicans across the country, including in Texas, were triggered by Trump's loss to the degree that they will try to limit access to voting and call it election security.  They will refuse to accept the results of Trump's election loss as a reflection of Trump and, instead, will claim that the loss is evidence of something sinister.  The Republican legislators seemingly believe that enough of their constituents are dumb enough to believe that limiting voting access somehow translates into safer elections and that they won't suffer any consequences. Unfortunately, those republican politicians aren't bright enough themselves to consider the consequences for everyone should they continue to destroy confidence in our democratic processes for their personal goals. There will be no American democracy if republicans don't believe in free and fair elections.

Yes, and they do.

So, which laws specifically are you opposed to?

Which laws do you think I'm referring to?

Facts! You clearly see the word pandemic!

Facts! Even health care professionals during the height of the pandemic had problems finding PPE because corporate America counts pennies or is beholden to the quarterly report or investors.

The only idiots stupid enough to be unafraid of Covid were mostly republican as evidenced by which states currently are experiencing the surge of infections?

Someone tells you to inject bleach and you don't immediately decide that this is one of the dumbest humans alive, but continue to listen to anything he or anyone around him says, then, that makes you even stupider than they are!

Frankly, Beerman, I applaud republicans for trying whatever measures to win. That's always been my own motto unless it involves someone actually getting hurt. I believe in evolution, not just Biologically, but socially as well. If Democrats are too weak or too stupid to not realize how easy it is to chop republicans off at the legs, then they deserve to lose.

Everything is about power and money! Democrats hold the purse strings to every company in this country because they have at least 65% of the population. With facebook and other social media platforms, I would encourage a boycott of every single company that contributes to republicans. We have a free market system, so we have alternative products or companies to buy from. In three months, at the next quarterly, the problem is solved! I would also initiate that not only will the companies be boycotted, but no business will return until the CEO and board members are dismissed who okayed republican contributions. I would hold them ransom in such a way that either the republican party is forced to reform and actually make policies beneficial to the country or drive them out of power completely! Money and power runs everything! And, Democrats have the buying power! Companies like Uline and Koch industries, I would bankrupt and then force Biden to prosecute or let him know that he isn't wanted for another term.

All these women marching in Washington for change when all they have to do is get onto facebook and not reinvent the wheel! Purchasing power is what drives everything and they are the ones who have that power!

Biden is a coward, either due to age or wisdom!

I would weaponize the justice Dept in exactly the fashion that Trump envisioned and republicans championed! Any one engaged in any form of voter suppression or peddling any lies that could endanger people, would be immediately arrested! I would include the Supreme Court Justices and Governors as well! Let's see who's eating at the trough. I am very sure that almost none of the democrat leaning Supreme Court justices are feeding at the trough.

Give them their day in court and let's engage in the discovery process. From McConnell on down to Trump, immediate arrest. Zuckerberg and Peter Theil, immediately arrested. Believe me, I would bet all the money I have worked so hard for, they have nasty skeletons in their closets. Tax avoidance internationally, bribery, extortion! Zuckerberg and Theil are buried in it.

Only the truth would suffice. But it will never happen, because Biden also has skeletons in his closet and the Democrats know that many of them has too. America is a country of lies and deception. From our religions to our history. We are always spinning some junk or the other!

No. It's unsolicited mail in ballots that are to be restricted.

Drive up voting is not private voting is not private if others are in the car.  And, its simply not necessary.

24 hour voting is a costly expense.   And, again, not necessary.

OK.  I answered your questions.  Now, tell me what you find to be so objectionable about the proposed law.

A good opinion article here, that includes a lot of factual info too back it up.

Some people will believe almost anything, aeb the broad support of a corrupt liar by republican voters.  Those same people will believe that taking away voting access will somehow reduce fraud that wasn't even a problem to begin with.

Since there was no widespread fraud or cheating that motivated the voting changes like they said...what really motivated the laws? Did increased voter turnout inspire the restrictive laws? There's actually evidence and history to support that concept. The Senate hearing on this topic was interesting.
