President Biden thread

Published

Wow.  No one has started such a thread yet?

After promising that most K-8 students would be in schools in the first 100 days,  apparently Joe is afraid to lead on this and has drastically scaled back that goal.

Instead, we're shooting for about half to go to school at least one day a week,  by the end of April.

True.  But why is Biden's camp bothering to even talking about it?

I know!! I found his story about his uncle... I think was shot down in WW2 and eaten by cannibals very enduring. I never knew!! Les we forget. I guess we did except Biden! He has a great memory.

Biden was having an "emotional moment" thinking of Trump calling veterans "suckers and losers" according to the press secretary.  More like a "senior moment".  LOL

What Trump supporters choose to criticize Biden about is oddly entertaining.  Never a peep from them about the fellow who lies about election results or pandemic mitigation, but they get all excited about a mention of cannibalism.

The president's comments on cannibalism, meanwhile, are not far off. In 1992, nearly half a century after World War II, Japanese historian Toshiyuki Tanaka revealed that he had uncovered more than 100 cases of cannibalism committed by Japanese troops in Papua New Guinea.

"These documents clearly show that this cannibalism was done by a whole group of Japanese soldiers, and in some cases they were not even starving,” Tanaka said.

A translated Imperial Army order from Nov. 18, 1944, described cannibalism as the "worst human crime" and blamed increases in murders and the possession of human flesh by soldiers on a "lack of thoroughness in moral training,” according to the Associated Press.

"In all cases, the condition of the remains were such that there can be no doubt that the bodies had been dismembered and portions of flesh cooked,” one Australian lieutenant recalled after finding the dismembered remains of several comrades.

I'll get excited about Biden's rhetoric when it starts to include suggestions that we should suspend the constitution or that he can sexually abuse women because he's famous/ wealthy.

How did Trump come into the conversation?

What constitutes a "Trump supporter"? Is  anyone who criticized Biden a "Trump supporter"? Or comments on this most recent ridiculous "personal story" from Biden qualifies as a "Trump supporter "?

Yes. Cannibalism exists. I have to wonder tho.....?

If Trump said he had a uncle of a brother who was "shot down in Japan and was eated by Japanese cannibals", he wouldn't be called a racist xenophob? Wasn't there something about China eating bats at some point?

You must be new here.  It's the default to bring Trump into the conversation whenever Biden is criticized.  Get used to it.

I think Trump is already established as a racist xenophobe and normalized his racist language to the point where his followers don't seem to be bothered by them

We're not supposed to talk directly about how that xenophobic and racist language is normalized just like we aren't supposed to mention the decidedly un-American sentiments about insurrection or ignoring the inconvenient parts of the constitution. Somehow, it's off limits to remind people who want to make silly criticisms of  Biden that their apparent preference for president was unprecedented in his disqualifying character flaws and incompetence in governing.

We're supposed to be concerned that an old Democrat tells a colorful story about cannibals when the Republican alternative tells lies about our elections.

It's a presidential election year, but we aren't allowed to compare the candidates. Funny how that works, ain't it.

The question was what does Trump have to do about a conversation about Biden making a statement about his Uncle.

Yes, it might be odd that some of the same people that criticize Biden for such thing allow worse things from Trump.  But likewise the same people that criticize Trump, gloss over anything that criticizes Biden with a "but Trump is worse........" and so we go.

I missed the post where someone said you weren't allowed to compare the candidates or weren't allowed to talk directly about something.

This is a long standing point of contention that I was just pointing out to a poster that might not know what happens when Biden is criticized or mocked.

Carry on.

Perhaps because the poster joined March 28th and maybe didn't read the hundreds of posts here before joining the conversation.

Back to  Biden, the Alaskan Senator is having an issue.  I think he's being a little bit of a drama queen although I understand that mineral mining and being independent is important to the US and quite important to Alaska.

Quote

Sen. Dan Sullivan (R-Alaska) criticized the Biden administration's decision to put millions of acres of Alaskan wilderness outside the reach of oil drilling and critical mineral mining, likening the moves to "national security suicide.”

"Well, it's lawless. He doesn't have the authority to do it. ... It's, as I say, national security suicide,” Sullivan said Sunday during an interview on CBS' "Face the Nation.”
