President Biden thread

Published

Wow.  No one has started such a thread yet?

After promising that most K-8 students would be in schools in the first 100 days,  apparently Joe is afraid to lead on this and has drastically scaled back that goal.

Instead, we're shooting for about half to go to school at least one day a week,  by the end of April.

Many people realize that the best thing that happened for Biden's economy was that Covid went away.

Inflation is very real for most people.  Inflation has slowed, but that is mostly due to the Fed raising interest rates.  That's not something Biden is in charge of.  And, the higher interest is also hitting people.

And, some not great news on inflation came out today:

https://www.foxbusiness.com/economy/cpi-inflation-January-2024

GDP has been good.  At the same time, the % of GDP that is from govt spending is at a record high (except for 2020).  Some think that will eventually come around to bite us.

Really Covid going away caused inflation, supply chain problems and did some havoc to the economy.

Covid didn't go away.  We just stopped counting it and doing anything about it.  My niece just had a wicked case, my best friend caught it on our trip to India (I did not).  But you know this, I get what you're saying.

A lot of what's happened in the economy isn't really Biden's doing.

We said that during the Trump years that when the economy was good people here would find citations to show the dark side.  Such as the article that "inflation persists" while showing a graph how it's dropped over time and "slightly higher than estimates".

Inflation definitely is a concern.  I wonder though is it so persistent partly because of the good economy?  Studies show people are still spending.

Still the article written by the BBC was saying that our economy is better than Europe's by some metrics.  I don't think it's stable and as we've seen, anything can happen.

But yes, also good to get the whole story.

So what's your solution?  Government spending is always concerning since the times of Alexander Hamilton and Aaron Burr.  We would have a little more money in the coffers if the Trump's tax cut had never happened.  And as even more insult, no jobs were created.  We repeated the old and previously failed trickle down economics Regan promised.

The point is govt spending is propping up the GDP to some extent and making that number better than it should be against historical averages.  Over the long run, will have negative effects.

"As government spending outpaces economic growth, more resources are redirected from productivity‐enhancing functions toward government‐fueled consumption without commensurate increases in the ability of workers to pay for a larger government. Excessive government spending also fuels inflation, depresses growth, and lowers living standards."

Obviously a small sample size.  What is interesting is the comments from these independent voters.

Two old guys are running for president.  One of them is fighting for democracy and one of them is fighting to regain lost power while making un-American suggestions and statements. Both of the old guys make verbal gaffes.  One of the old guys will abandon our allies and invite the violence of despots against them.  The other old guy has strengthened our global alliances and stood firmly against authoritarian aggression.

The choice seems pretty clear.

If you're going to be the one who determines how Biden's actions effect me, why ask me further for my opinion?

You're the one complaining.  I am not.  You also say that Covid just went away while Biden was in office.  It didn't just "go away."  The administration advocated that people get the vaccine; testing supplies were provided free.  In other words, it was handled like a communicable disease instead of a political platform.

It's interesting that people only mentioned "narcissism" and "egotistical" to describe their feelings towards him and not things like how he doesn't believe in Democracy in America and thinks the election was rigged.  That doesn't seem to bother people.

But I also get the apathy about Biden and Trump both.

I get it.  Some people are apathetic because they just don't care about politics.  I think many people are apathetic because that generalized apathy is part of the fog created by fascists while they work to undermine democracies.

Another Biden making money off of Joe's power.  I'm sure Joe knew nothing of it.

Has a Biden ever made a honest dollar?

"Biden's brother used his name to promote a hospital chain. Then it collapsed.

Jim Biden played a major role in a company called Americore, which the government has accused of massive Medicare fraud.

In 2017, a hospital operator set out to build a rural health care empire with the help of a Philadelphia-area consultant.

The consultant, Jim Biden, had no experience running hospitals. But he did understand the federal government and had ties to labor unions. Perhaps more important, he was the younger brother of Joe Biden."

Will you let us know if James Comer actually discovers some evidence that Joe Biden broke laws or abused his power in some way? I watch those oversight committee hearings and so far they've shown nothing to We the People except partisan claims and the words of spies, liars and former government employees that they call whistleblowers.  I'm very interested in taking a look at the evidence that has so many Trump supporters convinced that Biden is corrupt.

Clear difference in being a President:

President Joe Biden met with the widow of Alexei Navalny, Yulia Navalnaya, and his daughter, Dasha, on Thursday during the president's trip to California.

Quote

"The President expressed his admiration for Aleksey Navalny's extraordinary courage and his legacy of fighting against corruption and for a free and democratic Russia in which the rule of law applies equally to everyone," the White House said in a statement. "The President emphasized that Aleksey's legacy will carry on through people across Russia and around the world mourning his loss and fighting for freedom, democracy, and human rights."...

The White House has said it is set to announce "major new sanctions" against Russia on Friday in response to Navalny's death as well as its "repression and aggression, and its brutal and illegal war in Ukraine."

"President Biden's team on Thursday quickly removed the press when he said he would take questions at an event in Saginaw, Michigan, and social media users blasted the "incredible scene."
