President Biden thread

Published

Wow.  No one has started such a thread yet?

After promising that most K-8 students would be in schools in the first 100 days,  apparently Joe is afraid to lead on this and has drastically scaled back that goal.

Instead, we're shooting for about half to go to school at least one day a week,  by the end of April.

yes, We understand that conservatives are very upset by this situation.  It seems that building walls is the best immigration idea they have.

And here we are, two and half years later....

Trump voters have no idea what the real immigration and refugee problems are or what efforts - beyond a wall - might make a difference.  It's sad really.

As a Biden voter,  what efforts do you think have been made to make a difference in the last two and a half years that have made the situation better?

If rhe Republicans can't even compromise on the Dreamers, they will continue to obstruct any ideas except for a wall.  A big, dumb wall that can never work but it's a kindergarter's version of a solution.

Maybe Biden's wall is going to be more secure and less racist and xenophobic than Trump's?

Not much.  Congress needs to do their job but Republicans don't seem motivated to pass any immigration legislation that can pass both chambers.  Besides suspending immigration from specific regions or areas, what are you proposing that a president should undertake unilaterally? Can you be specific?

Biden's wall? Biden tried to get Congress to reappropriate this Trump era wall funding but they refused, so DHS is simply following the law.

"Bidens wall"  is actually appropriated funds Congress approved in 2019 that are required to be spent as Congress declined to reappropriate these monies. Once a  President signs federal budget, a change in Presidential administration unable to stop process.

Yes, thank you for pointing out Biden's Wall is going to be funded by Trump era funds that were originally allocated for border security.

Perfect.

Sure.  LOL!

You're telling me they have no choice?  Is that the explanation?

Of course, no one believes that.  But for fun, I'll play along.

So, now I'm wondering why the administration is suspending 26 federal laws and regulations, including some meant to protect the environment,  in order to get this wall built?

Suspending laws in order to follow other laws?

Correct.  They must follow the law and spend the money as appropriated.

The DHS is suspending some environmental laws to minimize time consuming reviews and lawsuits in order to get the project completed in a timely fashion.

Why would the Biden administration care, and especially at the risk of putting the environment at risk, if the project is completed in a "timely fashion"?

Texas ain't Israel.  Trump avoided the wishes of the Border Patrol who actually know what they are doing , but NOOOO,it was more important to honor the pledge he made to his MAGA's. I appreciate how difficult and unsettling this burden is on the states bordering Mexico.  But Biden is following the regulation of amnesty that was derived from our Constitution.  Until we change the regs and /or purchase the technology that the Border Patrol requested.  Biden did have the good idea of migrants not applying for amnesty at the border and, instead, apply at offices in multiple cities throughout Mexico.  Sounds like a reasonable idea to me.  The first good idea I've heard in the past decade.
