President Biden thread

Published

Wow.  No one has started such a thread yet?

After promising that most K-8 students would be in schools in the first 100 days,  apparently Joe is afraid to lead on this and has drastically scaled back that goal.

Instead, we're shooting for about half to go to school at least one day a week,  by the end of April.

That's what he says.  The US attorney in charge of the case (appointed by Trump) disagrees.  Why would Barr or Trump's FBI appointee step on investigation into Biden?

Maybe this particular whistleblower will prove to be more credible than the other whistleblowers the republican House has built hearings around. So far it appears unlikely.

If he doesn't die first:)  Really, how many years do we have to spend on this?  Since 2020, they haven't been able to make a prosecutable case except for the taxes and the gun.  This committee is just avoiding their jobs.  Gym Jordan is totally inadequate to be the chairman or even a wrestling coach, IMO.

Biden slams SCOTUS affirmative action decision: 'Discrimination still exists in America'

Quote

President Joe Biden on Thursday blasted the Supreme Court ruling setting new limits on affirmative action as a "severe disappointment," saying, "we cannot let this decision be the last word.

"The court has effectively ended affirmative action in college admissions and I strongly, strongly disagree with the court's decision," Biden said, adding that "the court has once again walked away from decades of precedent."

President Biden later appeared 4PM today on MSNBC Deadline Whitehouse with Nicole Wallace

Some snippets: "I have great faith in the instincts of the American people."

Regarding todays Supreme Court decision denying affirmative action in college admissions at Harvard

"I think that some of the court are beginning to realize their legitimacy is being questioned in ways it hadn't been questioned in that past and I think there's a concern.

PSSSSS  Biden is now using a CPAP machine for his sleep apnea -- maybe won't appear as "sleepy Joe" now.

Its a relief to listen to someone who is quite simply normal, decent and sensitive in public discourse.

Affirmative action was discrimination.

Why bless your heart, of course it was.

ETA: I wonder what the SJC would have to say about legacy admissions.

Affirmative action gave people preferential treatment based on their race.  Is that not discrimination?

(FYI, the following is sarcasm)

Yup, all those non-deserving persons of color preventing the truly deserving, white boys from going to Harvard and UNC. Just like Justice Brown Jackson took a seat away from a more qualified white man who went to an Ivy League school.

We certainly don't want our elite universities have student bodies that reflect the demographics of the country.

Remember how Clarence Thomas got appointed to the Supreme Court to have another person of color since Justice Thurgood Marshall had passed.... the first person in his family to attend college along with first black students @  his alma mater -- perceived to have benefited from affirmative action. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Clarence_Thomas

Everyone should be treated equal, regardless of color.

Our elite universities should be able to handle that.

What do you think about legacy admissions? How about scholarships to athletes who have less than stellar academic records?

How about home-schooled children who don't have AP classes on their transcript? Or children who went to poorly-funded public schools, compared to private school, tutored, children? What is equal treatment?

a diverse student body benefits all students. University campuses should reflect America's diversity.

I think that affirmative action is a form of reparations.  It would be life affirming for me if people could just drop the discussion of cash payment, restore affirmative action and just call it a day.  Legacy status will probably never go away..how would a college get a library these days:)?

And think of all the affirmative action we got by merely being white and middle-class; It was a full life-time of affirmative action for us and we just took it for granted that college and a good job was our destiny.  There are so many small colleges that would love to have these students...it works two ways for both groups.
