Pregnant right after giving birth?

Published

I know they say you can get pregnant again very easily right after having a baby.

With my first three I was so torn up it was a couple of months before I could even think of doing anything. But with this one I wasn't too bad, and the old man, well, it had been a long time. We've just sorta done it a couple of times, and now I feel the telltale fluttering, I have the telltale metallic taste in my mouth...I'm wondering if I will show up at my 6 week appointment and end up being some kind of spectacle - ol fertile Myrtle.

I'm curious to know if OB nurses have seen a lot of this (or maybe most people have better sense than to let that happen). I know the discharge instructions from the hospital said no sex for 6 weeks, but they also said no driving for 2 weeks, and out of necessity I was driving as soon as I left the hospital.

What kind of nincompoop shows up at their 6 week post partum check up pregnant?

After reading some responses, maybe it is an old wives tale a woman is especially fertile right after having a baby, I don't know.

I know it isn't a wise thing to do, but at the time I thought what the heck, what happens happens. Now, I'm worried about prolapsed uterus and malnutrition. Maybe I'm just paranoid.

I come from a very large family and have cousins 9 months apart in age. They were even in the same grade in school. I have at least 4 cousins who were 10 months apart.

HeHeHeHe...better you than me!!!:lol2::lol2::lol2::lol2:

Its possible, but I wouldnt count fluttering as a sign. There would be no way to feel fluttering that early on. Thats more likely gases.

Forget the 6 week appt, get a test and let us know!........lol

Well if you don't really want to be pregnant again please start practicing some birthcontrol right away. At least until you find out for sure either way. I know a lot of people that have had this happen to them. Personally, I never in my reproductive years ever exposed myself to unplanned pregnancy. Of course, I am way past that stage of life now. I think taking control of my reproductive life had a lot to do with my happy marriage and with my approaching satisfying old age.

Would a test be accurate right now? How long does it take for the hormones to diminish after giving birth?

Hello to all,

Well yes it's true. I mean I'm 3mths prg and my newborn is only 5 mths. The thing is I waited the 6 wks and had a cycle and everything, but when i went to the DR. to switch over to the depo, they came back and said I can't give you this shot and I just stared and said "Why" and he said "your Pregnant" I wanted to fall on the floor. Thoughts satrted going thru my mind like "what will everyone think about me". Anyway my kids will be 11mths apart.....So once again IT CAN HAPPEN!!!!!!!

A single pregnancy test done at home would be dubious and results unreliable. It would, however, be very easy to get a beta hcg drawn in the office, and if inappropriately high or climbing (you would need at least 2 obviously), then you can assume you are pregnant. A lady partsl u/s would also be instrumental in confirming things, but that would have to be beyond 5-6 weeks' gestation. As always, Motorcycle Mama, if you are in doubt, I have to refer you to your health care practioner for a sure, safe answer.

I wish you well, whatever the answers may be.
