If you had to work straight days or nights, which would you choose?

NIGHTS. I'm on days for a few more weeks and they are NOT for me.

Days, Days, Days!

Even on my days off everyone in my house is out of bed by 5am. I can't stay awake after 9:30 at night.

Some people are morning people.

I prefer to work nights so that I won't be bothered by rounding doctors, rude visitors, abusive family members, managers, social workers, PT, OT, and others. In addition, it would need to be 12-hour night shifts for me.

I hear you! They're still around a little bit on 3-11 but not too bad. By 6p they're pretty much all gone. Except for the abusive family members......

Night shift. I love my night shifts. To me, sleep is important. I love sleeping. It feels so good!

I work in long term care on the night shift. I am the supervisor. I take my responsibility seriously. And I don't have to deal with too many people. A team of PSW's and the odd couple of paramedics. Maybe a phone call to the doctor or family. I have ADD and the day and evening shift is so difficult to concentrate. Given the opportunity, I'll talk a lot and not get my work done. While I'm not impressed with all the paperwork I have to do, I love doing rounds and making sure the residents are sleeping well so they can participate in activities during the day. If they get a good nights sleep, they'll have a better day.

I've always loved the night shift and that's the shift I prefer. I remember once my husband accidentally answered the phone at 5am and I have such a hard time saying "no" to my coworkers. I cried at having to go do a dayshift. I stood in the shower and bawled. I hate waking up so early. I'll do it if I absolutely have to and sometimes, I'll accept the odd day shift to remind me why I hate them.

Another night shifter here! I really love it. I'm an 8 hour night shift person, though.

I love nights so much that I'm leaving community health to go back to a night shift job. After a decade of dragging myself out of bed to make a 6 AM shift, I look forward to coming home at 0730, going to bed and waking up whenever.

Hey, the only 12 hour shift I was ever able to do was 3 PM to 3 AM. I liked it a lot. I hardly ever see it anywhere.

WHen I worked where it was available, 3-11. But now I work 12s. So 7a. I hate nightshift; always did.

Evenings from 1530-2330 :D

Then days

Then nights :/

Nights for me! I can get home in time to see my daughter off to school, I can be home when she gets out of school and help with homework.

If I worked days, I wouldn't get to see her much.

Well, I guess I am the clone of Nurse Clown. Eves all the way, I'd prefer 3-11, but if Ihad to do twelves, it would be 7pm to 7am. I am sharp anytime but early AM. For me getting up early, showering and going to clinicals is so ugh..... I am hoping for evening clinicals this quarter.....

Day shift please and thank you.

I was recently hired on the 7p to 7a shift. Im kind of worried about working this shift. Is it hard to stay awake? i know i will be tired but do you get use to it? I will only wake 3 days a week but i think that will make adjusting harder.

I don't find it hard to stay awake during night shift, but I've always prefered staying up late, and have never been the kind who likes waking up at 5am to go to work. It took me a few months to get used to it, but I think I've (my body) finally adjusted.
