Who is tired??

I have never felt so exhausted as I do now. I am out of shape which doesn't help and I probably do not eat the best of foods. Maybe it has finally caught up to me. I get up everyday at 5:30 AM, work from 8:00-4:00 PM and go to school until 6:30 PM, 10:00 PM, 9:30 PM, and 8:00 PM. I find myself passing out while doing homework, studying, etc.

Which methods, foods, etc. do you all use to stay awake while doing homework and studying. It is not because I am not interested, it has everything to do with me just being tired. Maybe I need to try to work in some exercise in my schedule, I just do not know where to fit it in. Bteween homework, tests, lab reports, essays, I have a tight schedule. Any feedback would be greatly appreciated.

Joe I don't know where you could possibly fit more in. I don't know what classes you are taking but do you go to school every night? I am not sure I could do a schedule like that. I am fortunate I don't have to work outside the home right now. But I do have 3 kids I have to keep up with however they are in school so I use their school time as my school time. I am taking 2 Science classes and its a ton of work and I use all my free time for school, my friends are the only thing really suffering, I schedule my kids home time around them and I study after they go to bed and during their school hours. I agree about not eating right I find especially on my class days i skip meals we go from 8am till 2p fri and sat and I often stay after class until about 4pm and I might bring a snack I know I shouldn't skip meals but bringing a lunch just hadn't seemed practical. I also get up extra early to walk my dog, that makes me feel atleast physically active and then not so guilty that my pup has to sit around and watch me study all day.

I am married with two boys (8 & 4) and my wife and I have big families and we always have some type of family party every weekend it seems. I go to school 4 days a week. I am taking Chemistry, American Civilization, and Math. I have been getting by but that meant I have to stay up til 1 AM and get up at 5 AM, it really isn't easy =(. The ultimate goal is what keeps me chugging along.

yes thats a hard schedule and hopefully you won't burn yourself out, make sure you take some time for you and your family.

My husband has lots of family near by but I make him to his family functions with the kids and himself its a great excuse this studying

I really don't think exercize would help you at this point. You body is telling you what you need, and that's sleep! You can only go so long with out it. I'd try to fit the exercize in, like parking far from buildings, taking the stairs, ect. but as far as extra time goes it dosen't look like you have it. And as far as the family gatherings go, you might need to learn to say no, or if you have to go, then I'd warn them you'll be studing there. I'd hope they'd understand at this point. Like you said the end goal is the priority right now. Good luck, and try to get some sleep.

I must say, I dont know how you all do it. I consider myself busy and tired and I even feel sorry for myself sometimes:imbar , but I dont work.

I think my problem is not exercising, but I have started. I think taking vitamins, ect might help, but all of you are burning the candle at both ends. Probably a good Vitamin B stress vitamin might help some, but I think that is a terrible load.

Yes, exercise can give you more energy throughout the day and help you sleep more restfully at night, but you still need a healthy diet and plenty of rest. If you want to fit in exercise you can try to walk on a treadmill or ride a stationary bike while reading or studying. Multitasking is the only way when you already have a full plate. I hope you get some rest and maybe lighten your load for next sememster. I would never give out that advice if I wasn't already in your shoes, 4kids, work, full time student, cheerleading coach, brownie leader, football team mom, Homeroom helper, yada yada. Anyway, I wanted to finish right away so I kept on full time. Finally, I decided I wanted to keep doing all of those things, and I didn't want to be miserable so I lightened my courseload a little, and I am happier. Just remember your health and happiness is vital to your success!!!

Take the advise of a woman with 5 kids (with one on the way), a full time student ,full time employee with a husband who is also a full time student...Go to bed and get some rest. you can do all that energy junk but it does not make up for the sleep you loosing. I worked off 4 hour sleep for years , passed out in class and on the road. Being tired fools with the minds ability to intake and process information. Take a day off ,get in the bed and dont come out until the next day....then you will feel better and more refreshed.

I enjoy a brief 20 minute power nap when I wait to pick up my oldest daughter from school. :wink2: I also find that if I'm in need of toothpicks to keep the peepers open I just get up and do something fun like dishes or laundry and then hit the books again. I'm too cheap to buy any of the marketed sleep aids and I'm also too scared to try them anyway.

I don't have any advice for you, as I am just a full time student with a part time job, but I admire all of you who are going to school, holding down full time jobs, and raising families! Just going to school and working is hard enough as it is for me! Good luck and I hope you find a schedule that fits you!

I completely feel your pain! I have to get up at 3:45 am so I can leave my house by 4:15 am so I can get to work by 5 am. Then Mondays & Wednesdays I work until noon, Tuesdays work until 4 pm, Thursdays and Fridays usually work until at least 5pm. I juggle a full time load (5 classes or 17 credit hours this semester) taking chemistry, anatomy lab, history, english and jazz dance, a demanding career in marketing where I on average work at least 50 hours a week, and then a part time job teaching a dance class. Exercise doesn't help you need to hiberate! I have a dance class I took for my performing arts credit which meets twice a week that I get some exercise in and also go to the gym with my husband 3-4 times a week and I'm still exhausted. I usually take Saturdays and Sundays to really sleep in and get refreshed and that's when I do the bulk of my homework and studying. Bottom line is your brain cannot process information if it is not well rested. If you are really tired try to take a 5-15 minute power nap and then try studying again. I'm just trying to keep on until December, counting down the days!
