what do do if you get a C....

Nursing Students Pre-Nursing

I failed my first Statistics test and its a prereg for the BSN programs (they admit by best GPA) so Im really afraid I will end up with a C - a B if I was realllly lucky. What should I do drop it? or keep going and see if I can do better. I do not want to take it again but I dont want a C in my GPA either.

Its not possible to retake classes unless you get a D or an F right? Is it the end of the world? anyone else going at it with a C on their record. man, you mess up once and it haunts you forever. When I first started school (in 1999) I wasnt trying to get A's I was just trying to pass, and I got like 2 C's I think. Now my GPA forever suffers, its not fair. I get A's now but those stupid C's bring me down to a 3.0. Now Statistics is killing me....ahhhhh so much pressure

If they admit by GPA then you need to keep your GPA up there to what the average of the admitted students are (make sure you know what that is, usually it just takes a call to the nursing dept).

What is your GPA I guess would be what you need to ask yourself and if you did get a C what would it lower it down to?

If it were *me* I would probably wait and take one more test (since usually drop dates are in Nov at most schools right?) and see if you can do better--if you dont want to drop the class then make sure you do lots of problems and really put in the time to make the grade....if you can't pull your grade up *I* (and I am only speaking for myself) would drop the class and retake it next semester.

Unfortunaltly grades at some schools (mine included) are the end all be all of getting into a program and even a B can keep you out. The school I just transfered from students were having to retake classes they got a B in, which is totally ridiculas because a B is a good grade, but it is just not enough.

Good luck!!

I guess different schools may be different, but at mine, you can retake classes even if you don't get D or F.

In fact, on the nursing information, it actually says that retaking classes is recommended if your GPA is not high enough to get in. (at the studen't risk & expense, of course.)

I wouldn't drop it just yet. Study as much as you can, go to tutoring, etc. Maybe you can bring it up. If you end up having to drop it, wait until the last drop date, or you have your grade for the the last exam before the drop date.

This way, when you retake it, more of what you have to learn the second time around will be more of review.

Hope this makes sense! Good luck!

If I got a C in Stats .... I would kiss the ground and run naked to the beer store so I could start the celebration!!!!!! It's a hard class .. Id be happy just to pass.

I wouldn't drop it just yet. It was only the first test. I would wait it out and see what happens. At my school we can retake it as many times as we want. Of course more money but we can still retake it. GOod luck!!

Is it possible to take it in the semester right before you apply so that it will not be calculated in your GPA? For example, at my school we do have to have all our pre reqs done and stats is one of those, but we just have to havd completed the class before nursing classes start NOT before we can :) :) apply though. So, I am taking Stats now and I applied for Spring 2006 and since I am currently enrolled and my grade will not post until after the admissions decision has been made, all I need to do is make the minimum grade of a C. Maybe this could be your situation. I don't know if you are applying for Spr. 06, but if you plan when you take it, maybe you can get away with not getting an A. Just remember, after you get into school the pressure is not on to make all a's, it's to learn the concepts and pass the tests. Maybe you can pm me with questions since we are both taking stats. I'll be praying for us both.

:) :)

You can do it. Might as well try really hard andget this class over with, it wont be any easier next semester. Look for a tutor asap. Usually they have some on campus somewhere. Talk to you teacher and ask for tips. Let hom/her know you are having problems. They wont know unless you say something. Good luck.

I failed my first quiz too. I got an 80% on the second and even though we have not got them back yet, I am sure I failed the third too, I just freaked out. I am taking it for a school that goes by GPA too. I have a 3.5 right now but a C could really screw things up, so I know how you feel. Droping it will do no good if you are required to take it. You can repeat it even if you get a B and want to go for an A. But, I would be more than happy with a B. Hang in there and do your best, if you have to repeat it at least you will know more from having hung in there then from quiting in the start!

P.S. I ordered a book "Complete Idiot's Guide to Statistics (The Complete Idiot's Guide)" :chuckle

Oh, txspadequeen921, we all know that you look for any excuse to run to the beer store naked!!!!!

:chuckle just kidding!

To the OP,

I've never heard of a school that wouldn't let someone take a class over at least once, lord knows I have! Nursing school was my second attempt at college. My first time at college I was kinda just loitering on campus hungover for two years, so when I went back for nursing I had to take about 3 classes over. I did much better the second time around!

good luck!

:rotfl: :rotfl: I know that's right. We see this all the time.....We all just say, "Oh, there goes txspadeqeen again." :chuckle

Thanks! everybody I feel ALOT better. You are right even if I get a B I could retake it, granted it would have to be from a different school. I just checked my current school catalog and they wont let you repeat a course if you got a C or higher. Odd huh? Has anyone had to retake a class just to get a higher grade?

I (almost as importantly) want to transfer already! Im finally at my college level math, and I want to MOve the heck on to a university (I know it costs more...) I'll be the first in my family to go to a university much less college. Im sick of being jealous of all the university students. I know Im gonna cry the day I get my acceptance letter (I hope). :bluecry1:

My school also will not allow you to retake a class over if you've received a C or better at that school, but you can take it over at a different school. I am considering taking college algebra. I took calculus centuries ago and got a B. Calculus fulfills the algebra requirement, but I don't like the B. I figure I could get a (fairly) easy A in algebra, but I really don't want to spend the time or money on a class I may or may not need.

The other class that haunts me is English 1. I also took that class centuries ago and got a B. I can't retake that class anywhere because I also took English 2 (got an A in that one).

I also got a B in statistics from back then. I will NOT consider retaking that class....I HATED IT!
