Math pre req is preventing me from getting into the nursing program!

You definitely need to use math in Nursing. Maybe you could get tutoring and retake the class. Or ask if you

could retake the test after some tutoring.

I don't know what you should do, but I do wish you the best.

Is there a guidance counselor you can talk to? Friends, family? Someone who knows you personally,

knows your personality and your interests?

I did retake the test after a workshop over the winter but I failed again! I feel like I understand math but the test questions are sooo hard. I feel like a complete loser. I have totaly let my family down and wasted 2 years of my life thinking I could get into one of the most competitive programs in the entire country! Thanks for the tips though.

Life may be doing you a favor by ruling out nursing before you get in too deep. Let's face it, we all have our strengths and weaknesses. You have now identified one of your weaknesses and can now look for a clean start in another area of study.

I think if you can make it through the first math class, you will actually find statistics easier. I have never been great at math but statistics was a different ballgame for me, it made sense and it has actual applications to real life. I also have always done well at nursing associated math because again, it involved real life scenarios.

You need to change up the way you are learning. I don't believe you have to be an algebra master to do well in the math you will have in nursing and to do well as a nurse in general. I would hire a tutor, one that can explain things to you in broken down way. Math is the opposite of nursing, there is not a lot of grey area in it which is actually a good thing because once you understand how to set the problem up, you will very rarely get it wrong. Try your college and see if they can recommend someone to you. Good luck!

Have you always struggled with math? Consider the time your are using to repeat courses. Have a back-up plan available just in case you have to change route. I would try a tutor and if that still doesn't work, I would reconsider the route you are taking. You have to have a good grasp on math to be a nurse. The last thing you want is to get in the program and fail the math dosage calculation test. There is the Hesi test as well, that could have math on it. Good luck though.

In my nursing program. We have only College Algebra to pass, and then no more math if we don't choose it. I understand though, it can be tedious and around the clock study. I just put my mind to it and apply myself 100%. It's not easy, but I know it's a have to! I hope you find a way to pass your math. Don't let a bunch of numbers and variables stand in your way! Get to it and do it!
