Hi everyone, I want to apply to the nursing program. However, I failed math!! I have done all my pre reqs. My gpa dropped to a 2.6 because of the failing math grade. I cant believe I failed and I dont know if I will ever pass... By the way I am attending CUNY Medgar Evers. Its super competitive and I think I should give up. Im trying to apply to the lpn (aas) nursing program by the way. Any tips on what I should do?
I'm guessing you have a textbook and a tutorial center at school available to you? Retake the class, a higher grade will replace the failing grade and at the very least counter there gpa drop. Then spend your LIFE in tutorial, doing every stupid practice quiz and test in the book. I'm guessing you didn't go to your instructors office hours every single week and monopolize his or her time for extra help. Why not??? You want to be a nurse? Suck it up buttercup, it's not easy, and you don't get to avoid the hard or unpleasant tasks. It's hard work, it requires everything you have to give, and some days, more than that. If this is the school you want to attend, and the career you want, you have to find a way to do this class. And now that you've failed it once, you have no choice but to ace it the second time around. I'm sure you have it in you, but you have to choose to make it happen. Good luck. Would love an update when you complete the second class. By the way, I've always been a serious math phobic, allowed it to keep me from nursing school in my twenties. Finally decided if I could accomplish all the other things I've done in my life, I could do math. I have scored 100% on the mandatory medical math exam every semester in nursing school. If you don't pass, you fail out of the program. And passing means no more than one wrong!
Thank you everyone. I am currently retaking the class again. I hope I will be able to pass this time. Im afraid that I wont get accepted because of this class. I heard they only take the best of the best.
Feb 5 by angel1312 Omg I asked for my grade on the final and I got 11/40 which is 28% I feel so stupid and ashamed of myself.
I think I need something clarified please. You posted on January 27th that you failed math, which dropped your GPA to 2.6. You said you retook 'the test" (final?) and failed again. hen you said on February 5th you are retaking the class, and then AGAIN in the same date you said you got back your final grade, which was a Fail. How did you retake the class between January 27th and February 5th? Or are you saying you were allowed to retake the final not just once, but twice, and therefore have failed the same final three times? What does your GPA look like now? Do you have this class on your transcript twice with failures?
Please help, I'm confused lol!
Not sure if it's true for Medgar Evers but I heard Hunter and Lehman only take your first received grade for a course (Lehman only looks at science). However, I think you should retake the class and try to get a higher grade. You can always transfer to another school that looks at repeated grades.

I was never a math whiz either when it came to Algebra. I had to place in college algebra to be able to apply to the nursing program. I found a great site on the internet called math help.com. I practiced everyday for three months and I placed in college algebra!!! It cost a little over $100.00 but it was worth every penny! Good luck and please don't give up!
