Lehman College Fall 2020 Admissions
My reply is really late. But I hope you were able to make a decision. I'll link an earlier post on my thoughts about Lehman. Other students may find it helpful. Looking back at it, I really wish I would've gone to another school. I think the only reason why I decided to stay at Lehman was that I was already a student there and really didn't want to take extra pre-requisites to get into another school. Secondly, it's cheap. I graduated without debt. If I had another choice, I would've probably transferred to a SUNY or gone to a private school. They usually have a lot more learning opportunities and an overall better learning experience. You really do get what you pay for at Lehman. I and many of my classmates feel really unprepared to become nurses. You will be teaching yourself for many of these classes and I'm sure it's going to be a lot harder now that things aren't face-to-face. Nursing pay is decent. You will be able to pay off your loans. However, I hear that Lehman has added an assessment class? Good on them. We didn't have that and I really wish we did. But there's a catch. I'm not sure how schools will be handling the pandemic. I really wouldn't want to pay 25K+ a year just for online classes. But maybe private schools and SUNYs have more access to online learning resources (I.e. realistic virtual Sim Labs)? I'm sure they have a lot more to offer than what Lehman gave us (as mentioned in the linked post.. we had case studies, presentations, and made wellness calls for our clinical rotations. We actually only had one virtual simulation and we didn't do much. We clicked an option (similar to a multiple-choice test) and hoped for the best). Your best bet would be to speak to students from your prospective schools. They can tell you what really goes on.

Applied for licensure and signed up for the NCLEX on May 27th. Graduated on May 28th. Received my ATT on July 17th.

NCLEX Long Island NY - How long did it take you to receive ATT and schedule NCLEX ?
@NurseSparkly and @nursepaloma Thank you, both! I picked a date in December because I'm not ready for next week. However, there seem to be new dates every time I refresh. I found one in August, but I was a little too late because someone was able to register for it because I could. But I'm not discouraged. I know I'll get a closer date. I'll start studying hard tonight so I can be ready for whatever pops up next.

CONGRATS on getting in, everyone! The med calculation exam isn’t as scary as it seems. I’m terrible at math but I got a 100 on it. We weren’t allowed to use calculators either. The blueprint at the end of the document that @kil park shared was what my exam looked like. I practiced the problems in the document repeatedly and went over what I didn’t understand with a friend. A lot of the numbers they’ll give you should be easily divisible by each other (ex. 4mg/2mg or 5mg/10mg, etc.) or other simple things like that. The other resources you guys are using are great too! Keep practicing and quizzing yourselves. Also, please be careful with sharing your number and names on here. I believe it’s against the TOS and can lead to being banned.

I’m so glad the wait is over for some of you. CONGRATS to everyone who’s gotten accepted so far! Usually they’re sporadic with their acceptances (3.83s got acceptances before 4.0s, etc.) but it seems like they’re going in order this time. If you’re under a 4.0, just hold tight. It’s not over yet. Even if you didn’t get in in the first round, some people will be deferring their spots or choosing not to attend at all. As for the credit/no credit option, the chairperson told the seniors and the juniors that she didn’t want us to take credit/no credit option. If we did take it, we still needed to pass the class with a C (because even a C- is a Cr grade under Lehman’s rules). She said something along the lines of “while circumstances are different, the standards haven’t changed.” An advisor I spoke to a little over a week ago also mentioned the nursing department is against those who were applying to the program from taking Cr grades. They want to see the letters. If you’ve taken a Cr grade, tomorrow is the deadline. I would suggest calling someone up (maybe the registrar department?) and seeing if you can get it reversed.

It may not be my place, but I want to say that I feel for many of you. You 100% have a right to be mad. I would be too. It's very nerve-wracking to wait for your results when everyone else you know has already gotten them. You spent time and money trying to get into this program. The least they could do is keep you updated. As a nurse, positivity is great but you also need to be very realistic. You can't give your patients false-reassurance. You can't tell them "things will be better, stay positive" when they might not be. As a nurse, you will be dealing with a bunch of rude and negative patients. Telling them to be positive when they're ranting and venting is invalidating and not therapeutic communication. Let's extend that respect to your colleagues. They picked Lehman as their #1 choice, but the department is acting like they do not matter. Lehman's nursing department has already shown you guys who they truly are. Manifest what you want, but be realistic too. As I said before, this is the tip of the iceberg. Your colleagues pointed out that it isn't just Lehman who is going through the pandemic; we all are. There really isn't any excuse for what they're doing. You can't really blame the pandemic anyway. They acted like this before COVID hit. Also, be very careful about correcting other people's beliefs. Some of you will slip up and sneak your own beliefs into a conversation with a patient. It's a big no. The one thing I will agree on is using distractors. Play a game, chat with a friend, watch a movie, etc. Just try to take your mind off of this. You don't want to be severely stressed out. It's hard, I know. But try, it may help you feel better.

Yes, acceptances are sent to your regular/personal email, not the school email. However, I will correct myself and say that your clinical information/class codes can be sent to either your personal or school email. I just double-checked and had some of that info in my personal email, and the rest in my school email. Those are usually sent in late July/August (right before the Fall semester) or January (right before the Spring semester).

No one has mentioned her in weeks. You’re bringing up an old topic.

Makes sense. A lot of people in Long Island seem to be getting their ATTs in a timely manner. Thanks for your advice. I passed it onto my cohort and we'll see what happens now.

Nothing yet. As of June 8th, the NYSED is still reviewing applications received on May 4th. We’re going to be waiting awhile. Are you from NYS?

I know this isn't the most comforting thing to hear, but I feel like it has to be said... Budget cuts are affecting all of CUNY, and COVID-19 is the reason why. Many professors and faculty members have been laid off. It will take a while for things to return to "normal". I understand it's disappointing, but it has to happen. They've made cuts everywhere they possibly could, and unfortunately they had to target educational programs too. The chairperson had a town hall meeting with all of the nursing faculty and senior/junior students in early May. She said budget cuts were being made at Lehman but never specified where or how. I guess we're now finding out what is happening. Considering Lehman barely has enough resources to begin with, it's better for them to take no or a very minimal amount of students. You guys would suffer greatly. We did even on a "full" budget. Disorganization is very common in this nursing program. One person says something, but another person will tell you another thing. You will also be the last to find out about things (as evidenced by what has just happened.) Sorry to say that this is only the beginning. The disorganization of the program is one of their alumni's biggest complaints. If you guys don't get in now, I hope you'll find a better program or will be able to attend Lehman's program when it is in much better condition.
