Has anyone taken Comparative Religion?? What should I choose for Humanities?

Nursing Students Pre-Nursing

I have to choose a class to take to cover my humanities, but I want something that won't require too much thought or time because I also am taking A&P 2 with Micro at the same time. Has anyone taken a comparative religion class? Or does anyone know an easy class I could take for the humanities requirement?

I don't know about your school, but I'm taking an intro to poetry class right now to finish up my humanities credits. It's so easy. I think the total class points come to 300. Three one page papers, weekly discussion board posts and responses (it's an online class), and a midterm and final. I spend maybe an hour a week on the class, possibly a little more for the weeks with papers, and I have a 97%. Plus, it's kind of refreshing to take a break from science with some poetry. :geek:

As far as time commitments, it is not always the subject matter, it is the professor and the class format/syllabus.

One thing I will say, comparitive religion studies (while very cool) are inextricably tied to history and philosophy, both of which are time consuming subjects in and of themselves. So go forth with caution.

I took what I thought would be an "easy" online humanities course over the summer (I'm completing my RN>BSN)..."Intro to Humanities, through the arts."

Was it "easy?" Yes, especially if you compare it to microbiology or organic chem. Was it time-consuming? Shockingly so. The prof had a very busy syllabus. That said, it was a pleasure.

LOVED Comparative Religion! I found it very interesting... basically a hybrid philosophy-sociology class focusing on spiritual beliefs, customs, rules & regs. The knowledge is extremely useful in nursing since it provides practical insight into beliefs that have an impact on health practices such as end of life care, dietary restrictions and acceptability of various types of interventions. Cultural anthropology is another good elective - also very applicable to nursing practice.

I plan on taking an ethics and/or logic course for my humanities requirement. It should be a no-brainer why either of those courses would be helpful in the nursing field, but I could see how a religion class would be beneficial, as HouTx mentioned.

If you are looking for easy, avoid Western Civ. Just my two cents.

I'm wrapping up this course online and I thought it was pretty easy and interesting to read about.

Easy A in my opinion!

Thanks everyone! I definitely know more about the subject then I did when I was deciding to select it thanks to you guys. I do like the fact that it will be helpful in my career so I just may take it. The other option I was thinking of taking is American Literature only because I've had this teacher before and I know it would be possible to get an easy A. Both classes may require more time than I anticipated.

A low level psych course might be good. I mean, my degree is in something else, but psych was always a good way to fill out my semester.

Thanks liketheairport I didnt think of that!
