A&P 1 Spring 08

Nursing Students Pre-Nursing

Published

Hi y'all! Anybody taking A&P 1 this coming spring semester? I'm trying to get as many pre-req's out of the way as possible and could use a study buddy or 2! Thanks! :)

Do the nerves/nerve plexi (plexus-es?) confuse anyone else? I'm plugging away and trying to learn everything but I'm still a little boggled:bugeyes:. I can't seem to get a picture in my head of where they come out and get resorted, and where they go from there...anyone have any luck with this stuff/any suggestions?

I have to dissect a cat tonight in lab...woohoo! Spent last evening at home reading in my lab manual about how to skin the darned thing...definitely could've done without my hubby piping up from the living room saying "there's more than one way to skin a cat, harharhar!":p

Does anyone else have to memorize 50-something muscles including origin, insertion, and function? Holey moley this is a lot of stuff!

Does anyone know a good website for the integumentary system? I'm looking for a diagram of the skin with all of the nerves and stuff inside of the skin labeled, please.

Alright, who's good with the nervous system? This whole "potentials" thing has got me baffled...I understand that they're signals, and that graded potentials are for short distances and degrade, and action potentials travel long distances and don't lose strength...but do action potentials only travel down axons to another neuron or an effector? And graded potentials can be converted to action potentials and they occur in dendrites?

Just so I have this straight...sensory neurons receive sensory input at their dendrites, which then travles down axon to CNS where it is integrated. Then the motor neurons receive this signal from the CNS at their dendrites and send the "message" to another neuron/an effector via their axon --> axonal terminal/endbulb (which release neurotransmitters)...right? Thank you!!!

ok so I took my second lecture and lab test (2 to go) we did the intugamentary system and bones. i feel really good about the lab. Bone Physiology is tricky:bugeyes:

But i worked and prayed hard. The rest is up to the God:bowingpur

Good luck!!! I'm sure you did great!

I'm off to take my second lecture exam on the integumentary system, skeletal system & articulations, and fundamental nervous system/nervous tissue...wish me luck! I'm scared to death...I need need need an A on this test to maintain my A in the class!:uhoh3:

I am sure you did great!!!! I just took my second lecture exam yesterday on exactly what you took except we covered epithelial tissue & connective tissue. We will cover the Nervous System, Special Senses, & Muscular System on our third lecture exam!!!! The second lecture exam was not easy but it was not too hard, I think I did good. Our teacher bases the lecture exams on our lecture notes which we can buy at the student store so as long as you study those & take good notes he said we should get a great grade!!!!

Thanks, everyone! I'm just a bit stunned that I was able to do this. I've never done this well in school before *and* I was hospitalized for 3 days in the middle of the quarter with a small bowel obstruction so I had to play catch up for weeks. Guess it goes to show what you can do when you really want to do something :nuke:.

You put it so perfectly!!!! I also thought that I could never do as good as I have been able to do in A&P so far, I have about 2 months before I finish at the end of May. I have studied my behind off, gone to SI's which is tutoring and it has all payed off so far. My first lecture exam I got a 77 three points from a B & on my first lab practical I got an 83!!!! a B!!!! And this is possible because I really want it and I am really applying myself. I wish everyone here the best!!!!

hey guys!

It's only 2 weeks until the exam so I've been studying like crazy- I thought I'd share one of my resources:

http://innopac.douglas.bc.ca/search/rbiology/rbiology/1,36,37,B/frameset~1174359&FF=rbiology+103+co&1,1,

this is a link to our school's biology A&P1 exams from previous years so we can study off of them. They're really old and don't have the answers attached, but they are more than helpful to get used to answering exam questions and testing your knowledge.

Good luck guys! only a few more weeks for most of us I think- very exciting! Time to study like crazy people

Hi everyone. I'm looking for a really good interactive tutorial for both human and cat muscles. Can anyone help? If this information is already on this thread, I apologize, but I haven't found it yet. I just need some practice and I think an interactive site might be just the ticket. Thanks.

^^

this might help you with human muscles

but I don't know where you'd look for cat muscles- good luck

You might want to to your schools IMC center-International Media Center which is in my Community College's Learning Center & they sold me a CD that I put in my computer to watch it has human & cat muscles & sheep brain pictures & tutorials. It was only $5 it's for Bio201 & I am in Bio100 but our teacher said that we should buy it because it would help us on our next lab practical. I hope that this helps ok.
