Pre-Nursing "Support" Group

I thought I would make a thread dedicated to all of us waiting for an Acceptance letter, NET results, or even for those of you who are done waiting....getting ready to start up NS soon! Let's all band together and support one another in these stressful times~ no one understands us better than each other! Go future nurses!!!! :yeah::nurse:

Hello to all the future nurses out there!

I like your idea friendlyghost...Here's a little bit about me...

I finished my university degree in 2002 and have pretty much just floundered about since then, trying to find an inspiring direction. I've applied to one school here, it was the only one whose minimum requirements I met at this point. I'm taking Anatomy and Physiology by correspondance, working full time at a painfully boring job, volunteering in the Emergency Department of one of the inner city hospitals and doing lots of yoga.

I'm on pins and needles anticipating the admission decision, I think I have a good chance, but the programs here are competitive, so I can't be certain. Keeping my fingers crossed...

I think this is a great idea:yeah:

Oh, Jaguar Boy!! Pins and needles is a great description.

I am waiting to find out if I am in or waitlisted (which happens to most people in CO for at least a year.) Fortunately, I live in one of the few areas that does not have a massive waitlist. I have finished all the pre-reqs and now have to wait until May to get "the letter."

This has been a goal that has been a long time coming for me and I am very hopeful and excited to find out when I can start NS.

Good luck to everyone!

Great idea. I am certainly in a wait mode and feel like I am waiting for my pregnancy test stick to change colors. I would be ok with whatever the outcome, I just have to KNOW!

I have been on two CC ADN waitlists for a year, and it looks like it will probably be spring 09 for either of those. Though the letters haven't been sent yet and with the new TEAS test requirements, there may be people on the list before me who don't get in, thus opening an unlikely slot for fall.

I am also waiting word about a lottery based CC ADN. Notification for that in May 1 for a fall start.

Lastly, in October '07 I applied to a BSN state university program for fall '08. That meant taking organic chemistry (which I am doing now) and kicking butt on the TEAS (which I did, whew) and crossing my fingers. I was told I was strong candidate with my scores, GPA and health care experience, but it all depends on the strength of everyone else who applied. Very scary to know you can look great on paper and still not get in! So, late May for that decision.

I wasn't initially intending to put in the extra year (or money!) to do a BSN just now, but it I can get into that program first, that is what I will do. It will probably be a harder decision if more than one program pops at once. I am trying really HARD to TRUST all this and know that whatever happens is the best course for me. I have done what I can do, now I just need to turn it over and practice some patience. I will be happy to get in where ever I can, and feel really fortunate to have several irons in the fire. At least I know that in the worst case scenario I will be in by next spring no matter what. Besides, if I don't get in for fall, I am certain I could use a breather and to get my affairs in order before NS.

Looking forward to sharing the wait with you all.

It's great to meet all of you! I thought this was a good way to be able to relate to people in the same position as me...this is a time when we need to vent so we don't stress ourselves out so much. It's true that its like waiting on pins and needles or taking a pregnancy test....YOU JUST WANT TO KNOW! :) Everyone who I have encountered in the past few days has been "lucky" enough to hear me rant and rave about how I feel in regards to waiting for a letter....I'm just thankful I have so many loving people who care and listen. And, to have a place like this where we can all share our feelings, and everything else!

I never did mention about my 'waiting' experience thus far, I'm a sophmore (20 yrs old) and I'm in my last semester of prerequisites at the local community college. I am taking Statistics, Nutrition, Interpersonal Communication, and Biomedical Ethics. The nursing school I applied to is accepting about 36 applicants, out of a little over 100 of them. I also applied to their accelerated program to increase my chances. I figured that only applying to the traditional BSN program wouldn't be a good idea...its SO competitive, so their accelerated program is taking 40 applicants out of a little over 70...MUCH better chance on that one (and I could graduate a year earlier... :) )...so, I will know around the 1st week in March. I don't know if I'd have the patience to wait until May like some of you have mentioned! I just want to thank all of you for being my "support" in this time of stress and anticipation. I think we'll all make great nurses once we get out there! Have a great Friday night everyone! :p

Ooh I like this idea!

I post mainly on the CNA board, but will start posting here more often

I started my pre-reqs in Summer of '06, went full time for a while, then switched to half time due to having a two year old and a full time job.

I am currently working on my last two pre-reqs (Stats and English 102) and then I am going to see if I can't get into the LPN program if a RN spot doesn't open up, and if that doesn't happen then I don't know. I guess maybe Phlebotomy or maybe I'll start doing the EMT classes. I would rather keep going to school and focus on something in the healthcare field then not do anything and wait to be called.

Thanks for starting this thread and I look foward to meeting everyone! Nice to know we are in the same boat together.

Welcome Tiggerbelly! It's lovely meeting everyone, and I can't wait to hear how we all GET IN (positive thinking does wonders! :) ) have a great weekend!

Hi guys,

great idea about support group. Waiting for THE LETTER until May 1. Every time I pick up my mail, my hands shaking. I don't have plan B, so this college I applied to is my only choice.

Hey, everyone.

I've been accepted to an accelerated BSN program that starts in July, but dh is really backing off on whether we can manage for me to quit working for 14 months.

So I'll be checking into a local ADN program, too. The regular BSN requires 3 years of full-time school. I might manage to work through the 1st year because I've already taken some of the required courses, but that just seems like such a long time. And not much better, work and income-wise (though the tuition is cheaper). I did just get an application to fill out for the regular BSN. There are some hoops I have to jump through because they don't want to recognize the English credits I got by "advanced standing" for my 1st BS.

Good luck to all. Let's hang in there with each other, and keep believing that if this is really the path for us, that things will work out!

Welcome to both Nursic and Mom2twinboys... Nursic, I hardly have a plan "B"...I have one, but it doesn't sound so great compared to the idea of getting into nursing school...so I totally know what you mean about it being so vital to get in! Keep me posted on how that goes....I bet you'll hear before May! I should hear back from my school around the first week of March according to my advisor. Mom2twinboys, congratulations on being accepted to the accelerated program...I'm sure whichever path you choose will work out in the end. Let me know which way you choose to go! :) I hope everyone is having a great weekend so far!!

Thank you for your support! I became addicted to allnurses.com! It made me realise that I'm not alone with my shaky hands:mad:. I hope I'll post my "ACCEPTED !!!" message soon.
