i was just wondering if they watch you when use the restroom for the urine screen????

Specializes in Emergency Medicine.

It happened that way when I was in the Army but I haven't been screened that way since.

All my UDS's happen @ a reference lab. They might have you empty your pockets before you go in, they might have some reagent chemical in the toilet but as far as my experience goes they're not directly watching you give a specimen.

Why do you ask?

I don't know if they can/are allowed to watch you. I would imagine that to be a violation of your privacy. When I did mine, they simply instructed me not to flush or turn on the water and to call them in when I was done. They came in and looked around, took the specimen cup, then let me turn on the water to wash my hands.

No, they don't watch you, but they don't need to. The test are so sophisticated, it knows the tiniest funny business. When I first started to get tested 4 years ago, they would give the cup, send you to the bathroom and tell you not to flush, nor wash your hands, until you handed them back the specimen. They would wait out side the door, the whole time. The last few times, they did none of this.

I didn't use the restroom in front of someone but had the dye in the toilet and could not wash hands, etc. Also they checked temp...pretty standard.

no they dont watch you. the RN stood outside and waited for me and i left my things in her office. she showed me the bathroom, put dye in the toliet water and waited for me to go. they dont actually stand there and watch. i am out gave her the urine sample and then she told me i could flush and wash my hands then i signed my samples and she prepared them (temp and stuff like that)

No, my mom actually took a urine test about a month ago for a new job she was applying at the hospital and they didnt watch her. They didn't make her do as the above people said but they made her take it twice...

No, they don't watch you. They have temperature strips on the cups that are highly sophisticated and if it's off or even looks like it was hotter then normal and then cooled you do it over.

There was a basketball player a few years back that after he retired he bragged how he had a friend put drug free urine in his bladder via a Foley just before he tested and got away with it; some people will do anything. The best way is to be honest, that way you don't have to remember the lies.

Ewww - that's a level of closeness i don't want to achieve with anyone!! Also - wouldn't your body just keep producing the tainted urine at appox 30 cc per hour? Seems like a lot of work and potential for infection to fail anyhow.

I don't know; only read the story on a news feed a few years back. It only shows how desperate some people wll become IMO.
