Potential new employer trying to rush me into accepting job offer.

Nurses General Nursing

Hi fellow nurses!

(This is my first post, so I hope I'm not breaking any rules and posting it under the correct topic.)

I just recently passed the NCLEX and have now started my job hunt. I had my first interview today at a LTC facility and got offered a job on the spot. They are now trying to rush me into accepting the offer, even though I told that I still have other interviews lined up this week. Is this a red flag or is it common for things to move this fast?

I definitely wouldn’t take it, they seem desperate for nurses and are willing to hire anyone. It doesn’t sound like a supportive environment for a new grad. I was in a similar situation when I was fresh out of school, thinking no one would hire me, and that job was a nightmare!

I got my last job offer a couple hours after the interview, even though they told me they had to interview other people and I told them I had other interviews set up. This was on a Friday and I didn't hear the message until Monday, and when I told HR I had other interviews already set up they were very understanding. I'm sure they needed nurses but they respected the fact that no one wants to be put in a position like that. Run. Run fast.

LOL! I copied the list straight out of the 2020 Benefit Guide. Please come to Memphis, TN and go to work at my facility. If you sign up for Med/Surg I can get you a $10,000 bonus! We are desperate for nurses as well. But we take 4 weeks to onboard you and then you have a 12 week orientation. Guess we are just a little more diligent than the OP's LTC. ?

Oh, I forgot, we have a program that if you work Med/Surg and agree to work an extra shift during a pay period we will pay you $50/hr! Now how is that for a good paying job!

If I had the qualifications, I would strongly consider catching the next flight out, for the orientation period alone, if nothing else.

LTC is desperate. They are desperate because it is a h**lhole and other nurses have fled.

Continue your search.

The worst job I have ever accepted had an interview that felt like what you’re describing. I lasted 6 wretched months.

I would be cautious, they sound either reckless or desperate to me. Do they require you to sign to a commitment? Look online to see if any people who have worked for them have grievances. If you get a chance to visit, pay attention to attitudes. I've noticed that glum workers are often an indication of a poor work environment.

A person could also check out their state inspection results. I think the documents are supposed to be displayed publically.

Yes, it is a CMS requirement

Keep looking, it sounds like a crappy place. Anyone trying to pressure you into a job is out for their own interests, not yours.

Their desperate attitude tells you something is not right.
i remember interviewing for a position once and I got offered the position on the spot. Now, because I had worked at the same hospital several years prior, I had to turn the offer down

1. because they weren’t giving me the position I applied for.

2. The unit I was being sent to was a crazy one, so much that they are never fully staffed because nobody wanted to work there.

Bottom line, don’t get rushed into making a decision. Do what’s beat for you

I would be very concerned if a hospital is aggressively recruiting you in this way. There is usually a reason hospitals are offering sign-on bonuses. They are desperate because they have had a massive turnover of nurses, likely due to a toxic work environment. Feel free to message me if you have any Memphis-related questions.

A quick offer is not a bad sign. the fact that they are pressuring you into accepting is the red flag though.

As a new grad I knew I had the job when I left the interview. I accepted the job the next day, when they officially offered me the job, and it was great. I had no issues.

it was in float pool, a lot of there staff had just moved onto permanent jobs in the hospital, and they were needing to build up there resource unit. So they hired A few of us.
